Today we’d like to introduce you to Pecs Bustamante.
Hi Pecs, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Luis Bustamante, my tag is Pecs1, it all started when I was a little boy, I always felt a very special attraction to the universe, galaxies, and astronomy. My roots come from street art. Over time, I realized that art was what I needed to develop, I called my first works Orbital Graffiti, a mixture of paintings in the universe, ships, and satellites carried my graffiti.
With the passage of time, colors increasingly caught my attention, I questioned how colors were created, where they came from. That was when I discovered the Biology of Colors and Chromophores, the particles responsible for emitting colors through the sun. That’s where my work Cromoforos y Cromofobia was born. Vivid paintings, express and represent the creation of color.
If I could explain my expression in a simple way, it is everything that comes out of my belly, heart, and mind.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Painting graffiti on the streets has always been a problem, there are many people who don’t like street art, and don’t respect the expression. Believe it or not, it often happens with highly talented street performers. There are also very friendly people who, when they see your work, congratulate you, support you, sometimes they even give you a tip.
This discipline has many ups and downs. the important thing is to always be inspired, and not deal with people who are not worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I dedicate myself to painting, I specialize in graffiti and street art. What makes me most recognized is my abstract style, the colors I use, and my characteristic lettering style. The first achievement that makes me very proud is having participated in the Meeting of Favela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
A meeting where hundreds of the best street artists from around the world participate. It also makes me proud, to be able to bring color to houses, neighborhoods, that make people very happy. Once a grandmother who owned the house that I was painting, prepared me some traditional sandwiches from my country “Churrascos”.
She gave my son fruits and juices, she gave him a lot, and finally, she gave me a tip, I found all of this to be a very kind act, and many people do it, they show you their love in different ways, that makes me very proud. The people who value our work.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I am so sorry for the loss of so many lives. It has been a very difficult 2 years. Adaptation, I think is essential. The Covid brought many drastic changes and we only had to adapt.
For some artists, quarantine made it easier for us because we like to be locked up in our works, but others cannot be calm, they need to be moving, and the Covid took a lot from us. I learned to be at peace with myself, I took advantage of ordering my environment.
