Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter von Taborsky.
Hi Peter, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
SCOTCH AND “good” CONVERSATION is a conversational interview-style podcast. It began on October 2015 as a way to spend more time getting to know my friends. Some of the best and most important conversations I’ve had were in a parking lot outside a bar at 2 am, talking about everything and nothing at all. This is what my podcast SCOTCH AND “good” CONVERSATION is all about. Close to six years and 295 weekly episodes later, I’ve come to know my friends better and made a bunch of new ones along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
SCOTCH AND “good” CONVERSATION is pretty much just a one-man show. I wear all the hats. I’m the host, the producer. I book the guests, handle all the social media and anything else that comes along with the podcast. Having been an independent businessman before helped prepare me somewhat, but there was also a lot of trial and error. Fortunately, the central Florida podcast scene is very strong, and I’ve made plenty of good friends who have been generous with their help and advice along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The tagline for SCOTCH AND “good” CONVERSATION is “asking smart people stupid questions since 2015”. When I started the show, I really wanted it to be more like a conversation. Not your standard “here are the facts” type of thing. Those are a dime a dozen. I wanted to really get to know the people I was talking to, and I wanted them to get to know me along the way. The difference would be that I ask all the guests on the podcast to ask me a question. I make it perfectly clear that I am willing to answer anything. Nothing is off the table. I find that this willingness to share silly, weird or unusual facts about myself put them more at ease makes for a better conversation. It amazes me sometimes what I get people to talk about and the stories that they’re sometimes willing to share.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Orlando is so very eclectic. We have amazing people doing incredible things all over the city. Music, art, food, craft beer, theater, opera, sports, and tons more it’s all here in Orlando. The thing I like least about our town is often visitors will not take the time see all we have to offer and they concentrate on just the theme park area. They never venture out to come experience all of our cool cultures.
