Meet Priscila Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscila Perez.

Hi Priscila, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started playing music in 6th grade because I wanted to play jazz music, and as the years went by, I fell in love with all types of music. By the time I had graduated Highschool, I played 7 instruments, most of which were brass instruments. I was positive I was going to be a music educator; however that all changed when I got my first taste of mixing. It was then that I knew that I didn’t want to teach. I wanted to mix music and create music that would make them smile. Music that could make their rough days a bit easier. And that is when I decided to start working on my “Sylla” project. Where normal is boring, and all are welcome. Orlando welcomed me with open arms and has quickly become my 2nd home. I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to perform at Gilt Night Club and Celine Night Club, just to name a few, and it’s amazing how much love there is. It’s been 4 years in the making, and this is only the beginning.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My musical journey hasn’t been a giant rollercoaster. My friends and family have all been very supportive throughout the years, but It’s been a bit challenging trying to follow my dreams while balancing a healthy work and home life. In my home life, I am a single mother to a beautiful little girl who is just as into music as I am. However, the struggle and the pressure to find that 3-way balance is there.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a female dubstep Dj/producer. To be honest, I love any music that has Bass. People can recognize me by my Cruella Deville-style hair. I feel like what sets me apart from other people is that I refuse to do what is considered “normal” I like to push the boundaries in everything I do because Why not? I like showing that it’s ok to be completely different.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Due to COVID, I actually was able to get a lot of music theory studying done, being in quarantine and all. It also showed me not to take social interaction for granted.
