Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Billingsley.
Hi, Priscilla; we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up on the St. John’s River as a kid, there was always a lot of wildlife and plants around that inspired me. While studying painting at UCF, animals were how I learned to paint. Shortly after I graduated in 2012, my husband and I moved to downtown Sanford, where we found a thriving music and arts scene. We met many other artists who would soon be friends at a local coffee shop and community hub that held art events. It was a great feeling to be a part of a community and have the support of other artists.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is bumpy, but it helps to find a good community of artists who inspire you. There are so many stereotypes of what an artist is and should be, but you have to let all that go because it looks so much different. And you can’t wait for inspiration to hit; you must do the work every day. The life of an artist involves a lot of discipline and focus, so the challenge is to stay balanced.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While my background is in fine art, I’ve been stretching out into digital art and graphic design for the last couple of years. Much of my work has been creating designs for Orlando area musicians for merchandising, including T-shirts, stickers, and buttons. I also generate concert flyers for print and social media. Music is a massive inspiration for me, and my favorite projects are those working with musicians to create designs that reflect their sound and resonate with their audiences. I’m passionate about learning, which keeps me growing as an artist.
