Meet Ranarte “Teddy” Allen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ranarte Allen.

Hi Ranarte, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was working in a call center and started using a handyman app to make some extra money. I realized how much I enjoyed fixing, assembling, and building different projects. Shortly after starting that side job, the Covid pandemic happened and by the wisdom of my amazing wife, I started Handyman Teddy. I started with small assembly jobs, painting, and electrical fixture installations. Within a short period of time, I branched into painting, pressure washing, and larger assembly projects. All of my customers have come from social media and word of mouth advertising. I am thankful to have friends who have trusted me to do jobs around their homes and by doing so, I have instilled confidence that shows them I am serious about taking care of the homes and businesses in my community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Quite honestly, it has been somewhat of a smooth road. My biggest struggle has been setting my rates at a level that will allow me to take care of my family but keeping the financial state of my customers in mind. Covid has not been a positive experience for many people and with that in mind, I still want to provide professional services at a discounted rate. Essentially having enough customers to offset my lower rates. My hope is that I build enough clientele that I have repeat customers and build lasting relationships with everyone I work for.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I believe I am more than just a handyman. I am the guy that makes the lives of the people in my community a little easier and enjoyable. When I say my community, I simply mean anyone I come in contact with professionally or personally. I install new electrical fixtures for the wife who wants to brighten up a room. I bring peace to a family by changing the valve on a running toilet or faucet. Painting a kitchen white to make it look larger and more welcoming, Or maybe I’m the guy with the loud machine that keeps the driveway clean. I am known best, I think, for my attention to detail. This may sound cliche’d but I really do put my best effort into every job as if it was my own home or business.

The thing that I am proud of the most is the relationships I have with first-time customers or repeat customers. I love people and I love what I do. I figure I can’t go wrong with these two principles being the driving force of why I work the way I do. I think the thing that sets me apart is my low rates but first-class service. Yes, you can find someone cheaper, but will they give you the level of professionalism that you want. There’s an old saying, “you get what you pay for.” That may be true in most cases but not with me. Every customer will always get more than what they pay for because I value my customers above every cent I make.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
That’s easy! Those close to me know this but most don’t. I have a real soft spot for the elderly. When I get a call from a senior citizen, I get a little more excited. Don’t get me wrong, I love and appreciate all my customers. There is just something about the aged wisdom and sometimes frail nature of the elderly that makes me want to do an exceptionally great job for them.
