Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Land.
Hi Robert, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I had my first mortgage position right after college. I started in a “FastTrack” program with a company out of Maitland. They took a group of us and, in about 6 months, took us from zero mortgage background to forensically underwriting loans that had recently been foreclosed on. From there, I moved into various roles through the mortgage transaction. I also became a trainer for new Processors and Underwriters. During this time, I met my wife, Ashley, who was born and raised in Deland, FL. I moved to Deland to be closer to her and eventually secured a new job in Downtown Deland, where I quickly became the operations manager for a local mortgage company. I was responsible for Processing the loan applications, training the loan officers on new programs and guidelines, and ensuring we provided the best possible service. After a few years here, I was finally ready to open my Priority Processing Mortgage Group business. Thanks to my family pushing me to take the chance and go out on my own. I started Priority Processing Mortgage Group in the Summer of 2021 and have been striving to provide a smooth, easy loan process and educate customers about how a mortgage works and why we need so much information that we request.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Thankfully, it has been fairly smooth since starting. We are very blessed that we were able to get started and get a few great brokers to work with from the start. It made the transition much easier than I could have anticipated. Lately, the biggest struggle has been the industry as a whole. With rising rates and the sudden spike in values after COVID, it has become increasingly difficult for people to buy homes. But everyone is adjusting and refocusing, and I see a great 2024 coming.
As you know, we’re big fans of Priority Processing Mortgage Group LLC. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
Priority Processing Mortgage Group is a third-party mortgage processing company. We work with mortgage brokers and loan officers to help their borrowers and buyers obtain a new mortgage loan. As most people know, the mortgage process can be very difficult, stressful, and frustrating. We are here to make it as smooth as possible. We aim to close the brokers’ and loan officers’ loans on time, making it a smooth, seamless transaction for all parties involved. We take pride in educating our customers throughout the process so they understand the process and why we need what we are asking for. That way, in the future, whether they decide to buy a home with us or someone else, they will understand the process to help make it a smooth transaction. Buying a home is the largest purchase most people will ever make. Our goal is to make it a memorable one and a great experience.
What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
2024 is forecasted to be an excellent year for real estate in general. The word is that rates should be coming down a little. Buyers who have been waiting for rates to come down can now afford the home they have always dreamed of, and overall, it should be suitable for the market. However, the mortgage industry has its ebbs and flows. Therefore, in the next 10 years, there will be another downturn in home values and a rate increase. So many people are used to seeing rates in the 3% range. We will never see that again in our lifetime. Historically, rates have been in the 6% range or somewhat the norm in the past 50 years. People waiting for them to fall to the historic low we saw the past few years will likely be waiting a lifetime. We must educate the public that those rates are likely not returning and regroup our mindset to move forward with this new rate market.
