Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosalyn Castile.
Hi Rosalyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I serve as the Head Cheer Coach – Varsity and Competition at Leesburg High School. I have held this position for the last five years. I am most proud of how far the program has progressed. The road had been tough; yet so rewarding. Transforming a program is not easy and does not happen overnight. We set our expectation high and our girls meet them.
I have an amazing amount of support from parents, faculty, and administrators. We also have tremendous support from the Leesburg community in terms of sponsorships and donations. My Assistant Coach has the same philosophy as I do, so we are able to work well together.
I coach to motivate the girls to reach their full potential. Cheerleading is a tough sport and to see LHS Cheer recognized is phenomenal. We have qualified for the State Cheer Championship the last two years. Our girls work hard…most are two sports athletes so they manage their time well.
It’s our goal for the girls who cheer at LHS to have fun, create memories, and represent LHS with great pride!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Challenges are always present; whether it’s financial, academic or behavioral. We have policies in place that we adhere to that help to eliminate an ongoing issues or circumstances.
As coaches, we oftentimes feel we have not done enough. We see and know the potential of our athletes but struggle with getting them to believe in it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been at Leesburg High School for eight years. I currently teach US History and AVID I. I love everything about my job! I love the daily interactions with the students, I love seeing them achieve goals. I tell my students all the time that “once my student, always my baby!” I have created in environment that is welcoming and engaging which allows me to achieve maximum effectiveness in instruction.
I am fortunate to have my daughter Rylan as one my my Varsity and Competitive cheerleaders. The dynamic of being her mother and coach offers many advantages…primarily we spend a lot of time together. The opportunity to have shared experiences and memories is most rewarding.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would give credit to my Dedication, Adaptability, Listening Skills, Patience, and Empathy.
