Meet Savanah Dakos of Maitland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savanah Dakos.

Savanah Dakos

Hi Savanah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a love for flowers. Growing up in Pennsylvania, I would soak up every second of summer—I loved being outside, playing in the dirt, and exploring plants. My mom, sister, and I would spend weekends at my uncle’s greenhouse, planting flower pots and selling vegetable plants. I never had a set career plan, but I knew I enjoyed being outdoors, working with people, and expressing my creativity.

My journey took me through various fields—restaurant jobs, nannying, studying archaeology in college, and exploring graphic design and marketing after graduation. Though each had its moments, none of these paths felt quite right.

It wasn’t until I stumbled into the wedding industry that I felt I could turn my passions into a meaningful career. I started by assisting a florist with her wedding projects and later partnered with a wedding planner to offer floral design services to her clients. Today, I run my own floral business, where I merge my love for nature with my creative side and help contribute to people’s special moments along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge has been learning how to start a business from scratch. When I decided to launch my own floral business, I was both excited and overwhelmed. I had no clear roadmap and had to figure out everything from setting up operations to understanding the intricacies of running a business.

Thankfully, I am blessed to be part of an industry filled with incredible florists who have generously shared their knowledge and experiences with me. Their support has been invaluable as I navigate this learning curve. Every day brings new lessons and challenges, which can be daunting, but I view each as an opportunity for growth.

Despite the hurdles, I’m encouraged by the progress I make each day. With each new skill I acquire and each project I complete, I get a little bit better at my craft. It’s a journey filled with continuous learning, and I’m grateful for the ongoing support and inspiration from my peers and clients.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

What makes you happy?
