Meet Savannah, Emily & Abigail Amundsen, Acevedo & Acevedo of Umatilla Fl.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah, Emily & Abigail Amundsen, Acevedo & Acevedo.

Savannah, Emily & Abigail, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started as a need for simple, natural soap for our small children and an overabundance of lard from our homesteading operation. We committed ourselves, from the start of the business, not to use artificial fragrances or additives that are known irritants. Emily has a child who struggles with eczema so all of our products are formulated with that in mind. As much as we can, we use ingredients sourced from our homesteads, local, or from other small businesses. Our goal is to make beautiful, luxury products compatible with all skin types using all natural, locally sourced ingredients.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been a few challenges we have run into with starting our business; because of the niche products we create, getting our products out to the right clientele has been something to overcome. We also do all of our own processing so getting all of the prep work done before the actual making of the soap is daunting. Along with the rest of those challenges we are all stay-at-home mothers of multiple children so balancing the work that needs to done and our families can be a challenge. It’s a good thing that we enjoy each other’s company both inside and outside of business!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In starting this business we noticed that there seemed to be two basic categories of artisan soaps. There are natural soaps and there are beautiful soaps but there doesn’t seem many to be beautiful, creative natural soaps. Every time we release a soap collection our inspiration for the smells and designs are based on the season or something in our lives. We’ve made soaps based on specialty drinks, seasonal flowers, and Middle Earth just to name a few!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Orlando has a lot of benefits being such a central location with lots of activities for the family and a wide variety of food choices. All three of us are big foodies! If you look at our collections of soaps throughout the past few years you would notice that there are a lot inspired by foods or drinks.

The main downside to the big city would probably be the crowds and traffic. We are all small town homebodies.
