Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Kowalczyk.
Hi Shannon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have a background in retail management, marketing and interior design. My dream has always been to have my own store. I have owned several businesses over the years and participated in many pop-up shops. I have met many local makers who had the same dream of having their handcrafted products in a store.
I came up with the idea to open an artisan market featuring all local makers. It’s a place where small businesses can have their own shop, so to speak. We have some of the best local crafted products in Orlando. Each maker puts such love and attention into everything they make, and it shows. The store (SereniTea Apothecary Local artisan market) is opening in late August. We have about 15 vendors in the store so I am sure that there is something for everyone. We also have a small location where we can hold pop-ups or yoga classes next to a serene lake. I am excited to have all of these wonderful makers in one place.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel like everything I have done business-wise has led me to this incredible opportunity. I have met so many people who are willing to help make this dream come true. I would say its been up and down. I had some challenges at the beginning of this year, but with the community and friends I have made, it’s been easier than I thought possible. The location of the store just appeared at the right time. I knew the makers I wanted in the store, and they are all so excited to be a part of this.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have done it all! my background is in retail management. I’ve had so many opportunities that have led me to this moment. I have been a realtor, teacher, marketing manager, business owner. I guess you can say I have many hats!
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is the ability to do what you love and to be able to help others with their dreams along the way. I feel like if you’re pursuing your passion and enjoying your life, family and friends, then that is a success.
