Today we’d like to introduce you to Shauna Golden.
Hi Shauna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At the very core, I’m an artist. I love to create and imagine wonderful things. That’s been my guiding force through this whole process. My journey has been a wild ride but something I’m proud of because it’s gotten me to where I am today and made me who I am. I’m stronger for it and wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve jumped from industry to industry and switched career paths several times but I have such a unique skill set now that I don’t have any regrets getting here.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to finding my passion has definitely not been a straight shot. I’ve switched careers and industries so many times, my indecisiveness could have been a character flaw in a coming-of-age novel! However, this exploration has had a silver lining. By jumping around, I’ve not only discovered what I truly love (editing!), but also gained a diverse skill set. Embracing those “wrong turns” allowed me to explore options and solidify my path. My biggest takeaway? Seize opportunities, step outside your comfort zone, and don’t be afraid if things don’t work out perfectly. The detours often lead to the most beautiful destinations.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I juggle a few creative pursuits! First, I’m supporting my husband in launching his film production company, Rebuilt Minds. (Be sure to check them out on Instagram and Facebook for all your production needs!) On the editorial side, I help authors bring their stories to life through developmental editing, manuscript evaluations, and proofreading. It’s incredibly rewarding to see their work polished and ready to shine! Finally, I’m the creative force behind Shauna’s Book Journal, my online brand. This includes running a Bookstagram, Booktok, and Booktube page.
I combine my love for storytelling with a passion for helping others achieve their creative goals. Whether it’s through editing or content creation, I’m always looking for ways to empower voices and share the magic of books.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Don’t be afraid to reach out to someone, whether that be approaching someone in person at a networking event, or sending them a message on Instagram. Everyone wants to connect with others so don’t be afraid to make the first move. I know it’s easier said than done but I promise it does get easier the more you do it. When looking for a mentor, find someone you’re compatible with. Make sure that you work well together and that you find someone who’s not afraid to tell you like it is. The best mentors have stumbled into my life but I believe they came when I was ready. I made sure I was open to learning and bettering myself and to jump at opportunities when they presented themselves. Once you do that and ready yourself, the right mentor may just fall into your lap!
