Meet Shem Neilly of Orlando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shem Neilly.

Hi Shem, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As the founder of Ladies With Chapters it all began with a vision to create a supportive community, built on authenticity and vulnerability for women to share their stories and experiences. Inspired by my own challenges and triumphs, I’ve recognized the power of connection and collaboration among women. I’ve started by hosting small gatherings, where women could come together, network, and uplift one another.

As word spread, and the power of social media these gatherings evolved into a larger initiative, leading to the establishment of Ladies With Chapters. Under my leadership the organization has had a steady growth offering, membership opportunities workshops,Community Empowerment event, conferences, and resources tailored to empower women in various aspects of their lives. I’m passionate for fostering meaningful relationships and encouraging personal growth became the cornerstone of the organization, inspiring countless women to embrace their journeys and support each other along the way. Today, Ladies With Chapters stands as a testament to my teams dedication and vision, continuing to impact lives and build a vibrant community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No — the journey has been far from smooth. Building Ladies With Chapters as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit has required persistent effort in a funding environment where sponsorships and donations are difficult to secure.

One of the Key Struggles has been Reliable funding. Securing consistent sponsorships and donations has been extremely challenging, limiting the organization’s ability to plan and scale programs.

Dependence on self-funding: When external support falls short, I have often had to cover expenses personally, which is difficult to sustain over time.

How we respond?

Adaptability: We prioritize projects with the most immediate community impact and seek low-cost, high-value ways to deliver services.

Resource building: We focus on diversifying potential revenue streams — recently we started the membership, partnerships, and in-kind support — to reduce reliance on personal funds.

Commitment: Despite the obstacles, the mission and the communities we serve keep us moving forward with persistence and creativity. We know that the struggle is real and many women who need the inspiration and motivation to keep going and push through can’t afford to attend many of the high cost event held, but they are the ones who really need it.

In short, it’s been a difficult road financially, but with my team’s commitment and support from a group of committed individuals to the mission drives continuous effort to find sustainable solutions.
