Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Carlton
Hi Sophia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Grüvy Jewelry started as a project during my senior year of high school. I sold my earrings to raise money for the American Cancer Society. I fell in love with the process of creating pieces and selling them during lunch or at local craft fairs. After I graduated and started college, I decided to keep Grüvy Jewelry going. I figured since it made me so happy, and I already had a good system going, why stop? Orlando is such a great area for small creators.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been difficult balancing my small business and college. School is my priority, but my business makes me happy. Being a full time student makes vending fees a little bit harder to justify, it’s never guaranteed how well a market will go.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in handmade jewelry and hand painted totebags. I am most proud of the wire wrap earrings and necklace pendants. I enjoy making them the most out of any other earrjng/product. What sets me apart from other small businesses is the overall hippie/alternative vibe of pur products.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Having a small business has been such a wonderful way to embrace my creative side and get involved in the local community. I’m so grateful for all the connections and experiences Grüvy Jewelry has allowed me to have.
