Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Pierre-Louis.
Hi Stephanie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Thank you so much for this interview! I interviewed with Voyage Miami about two years ago, and so much has changed in my craft since then. I was starting to explore my creative directing side in the last interview. Since then, I have taken on the role of creative director and created a few viral shoots. But to reevaluate, I started with Makeup, and I learned from watching YouTube. I am talking about YouTube before influencers or beauty gurus were a thing. I learned the actual makeup application on myself by watching anyone applying their makeup and started practicing with my family and friends. Later on, while exploring the beauty community, I came across and fell in love with editorial and beauty makeup/photoshoots. As I grew into a makeup artist, I started taking on a few more creative hats from the creative director to set design, costume design, product shoot, and sets. I find inspiration from paintings, sculptures, old magazines, my Haitian culture, music videos, and movies. I love my work to tell a story, and I hope the audience can feel that. Today, I am creating photoshoot concepts for clients and brands. I have a great team that I work with, and together we always create magic!!!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being creative has not been a smooth road. I have disconnected from my creative side so often or have gotten uninspired. Especially during the pandemic, I can imagine it was for most of us. I had gone half a year without creating anything before because my mind wasn’t in the right place. It is tough to envision anything creatively when you aren’t in the right mindset. Sometimes you can get very discouraged. Or you start to critique your work harshly. It can often feel like you aren’t doing enough, not getting any opportunities, or moving forward with your craft and sudden quitting urge. However, I never let any roadblocks get in my way. I always manage to get back to creating. Creating is what sets my soul on fire. I get so hype to this day on set (like a kid in a candy store). It is essential to take care of your mind, and body to create dope work. I strongly advise everyone to take care of themselves and always keep going!!! Never give up no matter what, especially if that makes you feel alive, happy, at peace, and your best self.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a visionary. I am a creative director. I am a set designer. I am a storyteller. I am also a candle maker. I am an aspiring photographer. I am an artist. I am most proud of all the work I have created this far, big or small. All of this hard work sets me up for the next best thing. Let me know a vision, and I will put in all the work to bring it to life.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that the city is growing and expanding. I love to see the growth, but I am also disappointed that we don’t have as many creative opportunities in the city. I would love to see the city’s creative side expand a bit more. We need more creative spaces and networking events.
