Meet Stephanie Ramos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Ramos.

Hi Stephanie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I used to watch my mom bake and as I grew older, it became something we did together and truthfully something I loved. Initially when I enrolled in college, it was for a nursing degree so I could become a travel nurse and help people while exploring the world (shout out to my hard-working nurses). Halfway through my degree, I wasn’t happy and felt unfulfilled so I enrolled in to a baking certification course and pursued my passion. No real plan but I knew that baking was what I was intended to do. I initially started by selling Puerto Rican cakes for $10 to family and friends and slowly built on that. Little did I know that I was ultimately going to experience what running a home bakery really was like. About 2 years ago I completely shut down, rebranded and renamed my bakery after my grandmother. I wanted everyone to feel the way I felt at my grandmothers house when they come to pick up sweets from me, I wanted that nurturing and loving feeling to radiate when you take that first bite. Through many trials my little bakery has come a long way and I’m excited to see what the future holds for Julia’s Casita.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve struggled to find my identity and niche. I often used to compare myself to other larger brands and think, “why haven’t I gotten there yet” but I’ve learned to enjoy the process and take it one day at a time. Problems come up and things happen but I try not to overwhelm myself and just allow things to organically flow.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m primarily known for cakes In general but I specialize in Puerto Rican cakes. A Puerto Rican cake is essentially a moistened almond cake and it’s very popular in Puerto Rico. I slowly have branched out to treats and that has taken off very well almost to the point where I feel that what I’m “known for” is shifting. I’m mostly proud of the resilience my bakery has shown, I decided to shut down and completely rebrand my bakery two years ago, basically start all over from scratch and I received so much love and support through it and luckily, it took off better than expected. I believe the love I put into each and every cake or treat is what sets me apart, I truly love what I do and each baked good is made with so much love that radiates from myself and my family as they are huge supporters and motivators for me.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
As far as collaborations, I have worked with other small businesses in the past to host giveaways together and I personally try to do sales for different charities or causes through my baking. Truthfully any type of support even something as small as a social media interaction goes a long way and is something I am super grateful for.
