Meet Suzette Sears Baird of The Hourglass District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzette Sears Baird.

Hi Suzette, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I feel very blessed an honored that I was asked to be interviewed. Thank you for thinking of me. I credit all my success in my life to ADHD; lol it actually allowed me to dive into new endeavors without fear. I grew up in Atlanta and started working in the medical field. My whole life I loved finding treasures at antique shops, estate sales, and auction houses. I decided to leave the medical field and go into the antique business. I went to a little auction house to see if they were hiring. They weren’t, but the super high-end antique store across the street called Red Baron Antiques was. They hired me to my surprise, and it changed my life. All of a sudden, I was designing homes of the rich and famous. After many years one of my clients offered me a job in real estate in Orlando, FL. So, in 2002 I moved here and was in real estate for years. A few years after our recession, I decided to take a leap of faith and started curating art and antique markets here in Orlando. I really missed the antique business, so this brought me back to my roots. So many wonderful markets were created to give a home to all the incredible local talent we have here in Orlando. Maxine and Kirt owners of Maxine’s on Shine opened their doors for Finds on Shine, Will Walker of Will’s Pub, Jessica Pawli and myself created

Will’s A Faire. Local Varkers Market was a smaller market at The Aardvark. Now I only curate one market a year for The Hourglass District called The Hourglass Collective Holiday Market. Our next one is December 10th, and I hope everyone reading this will join us for a beautiful day with 50 of the best vendors of hand-crafted and vintage with food trucks and live music. I also own The Glitter Goddess – Silken Fairy Hair and spend most of my days sparkling beautiful ladies with fairy hair and thanks to quarantine, I found a new passion in exotic bromeliads and now just started selling rare and hard-to-find bromeliads. My brain never stops, and I hope I will always continue to do what I love. Always follow your heart.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Walking away from real estate to curate markets was a big financial cut, but I really wanted to get back to doing what I loved and surround myself with creatives.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
