Today we’d like to introduce you to Tayler Moore.
Tayler, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Makeup artistry I’d like to say is something I sort of “fell into”. It began in 2012 when I started college at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. I have always enjoyed all things creative and I remember doing a cheetah print design on my eyes to match my shirt using a YouTube tutorial…This is way before YouTube even became a thing. I enjoyed trying out new looks on myself every here and there and playing around with the drugstore makeup products. Fast forward to 2015, my friend and roommate at the time asked me if I could do her makeup. I was so nervous because I was like, “I don’t know how this is going to come out” and at the time I thought it looked great. LOL, but boy was it a hot mess looking back. Other people began to inquire about me doing their faces and I was shook a little because “me?! I’m not even that good!”. I was hesitant about even calling myself a makeup artist. I dabbled in doing faces for fun up through 2016 until I graduated and once I moved back to Orlando, I began advertising my services for $40. In 2017 I started working at NYX Professional Makeup in the Mall at Millenia until the location’s closing. During my employment, I gained more knowledge about makeup and learned new skills and I was excited to apply them to my artistry. It’s now 2021, I graduated from the Aveda Institute Orlando in June with my full specialist license and have been growing my clientele and makeup skills since. My friend Jenica opened up Exquisite Tings Beauty Bar and presented me with an opportunity to work in a studio space rather than my apartment and truthfully, I am so blessed to be in this space. I would have never guessed my passion would be makeup artistry. This was a completely left-field of where I thought life would take me, but I have to thank God because this creative realm makes my heart full and I am extremely excited for this journey to accelerate and continue to grow in this industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth and to be honest, it’s still a few speed bumps and potholes that’s trying to hold me back. One of the biggest struggles is consistency. Working a full-time job while trying to take clients is trying. My availability is scarce and exhaustion really takes over me at times. I feel another struggle is dealing with mental blocks and comparison. You see the girlies booked and busy and it’s hard to not ask when your time is going to come. Just being faithful and understanding your calling is the only way to prevail.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Moore 2 the Eye was born in 2021. I really wanted to come up with a name that was a play on words with my last name; Moore. I also didn’t want to limit myself to a name that was solely based on just makeup artistry in case I decided to expand. When I think of creativity, it is based on what you see so everything just flowed together — also with the help of my mom & dad.
I specialize in makeup artistry, natural glams at that. Looks that can be worn for multiple occasions. I want my clients to feel like they embody elegance yet sexiness and have confidence about themselves when they leave my chair. I also want them to have a relaxing and comfortable experience.
I’m most proud of putting myself out and not giving up. It’s so easy to get discouraged in an industry that’s “saturated”, but I’ve found my passion and I am going to keep going. For right now, I am offering makeup services and one on one classes in Downtown Orlando. I also provide makeup for bridal services too!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’m an advocate for taking risks in anything that could potentially benefit you! You literally won’t know until you try and as cliche as it sounds, it’s better to not have the “what if” stuck in your head rather than not trying to begin with. All you need is faith the size of a mustard seed and if it’s for you, it’s going to happen. Regardless of success or not, you’ve always gained experience. In regards to my business, I’d say the biggest risk I took would be moving into the studio space without having knowledge of how it’s going to be funded, but I most definitely have faith! God has never failed me so there’s no doubt it won’t work out.
