Meet Terry Ratcliffe of Terry R. Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terry Ratcliffe.

Hi Terry, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up with photo albums everywhere in my home with pictures of my family. I never ,however, saw a picture of myself as a baby. So in Highschool I begin taking so many photos using those classic disposable cameras. I was so determined to document as much as possible through photography. I always knew I held a passion for photography. I began my photography journey professionally in 2011. I have ventured in many types of photography but I specialize in Weddings, Headshots and portrait photography.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not exactly. Initially, the main challenge was learning various camera and editing techniques. I challenge myself to mimic techniques and quality of some famous professional photographers. Another main challenge was really finding exactly what specific type of photography I wanted to focus on. Photography is such a broad element. I ventured from Food photography, to Newborn photography all the way to sports photography. I discovered I’m more of a people person and Wedding and portrait photography offers a more one on one angle to develop a necessary relationship. Ultimately the biggest struggle was feeling like I never had time to shoot. When I first began my journey I was at a job where I did not get much time off and worked long hours. By the time I was off of work my energy level was often low. I began to take my camera to work and would practice shooting on my breaks. I

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a professional photographer located in Apopka/Orlando, Fl. and providing services throughout central Florida. I specialize in various areas of photography with an established focus in Weddings, Headshots, portraits and events. I began practicing photography professionally in 2011. I’ve been told many times I have a warm and welcoming personality. I like to apply that to my branding and business element. During photography sessions I like to liven up the atmosphere just a bit. Many clients get nervous or tense so I’ll ask them about some of their favorite music or songs prior to portrait or headshot shoot. Then I play some of their favorite music to get them to relax a little. Some sessions have briefly turned into small parties for a moment, lol. This results in such awesome photos and a productive shoot. When I have wonderful moments like that it doesn’t at all feel like I am at work. These experiences lead to wonderful networking opportunities.

The reason why I became a professional is that I have a passion and drive for capturing exactly what my clients desire. I always aim to go above and beyond in order to provide superior service and wonderful memories. I like to approach every session with a unique and personal respect. It’s one thing to simply provide photos for a client but when you go above and beyond to be inquisitive and discover their particular vision it truly makes my clients feel special and satisfied with their service.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Take your camera with you everywhere! Everywhere! Even if you just have a phone. Snap often and set goals. Try out many areas of photography. See which ones you like best.
