Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis “Baloo_eats” Johnson.
Hi Travis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started off with Yelp reviews to help promote local mom-and-pop restaurants. But found my audience limited. So I moved forward and started the foodie page that allowed me to showcase more of these unknown places and get them the recognition they deserved over these overplayed chain restaurants.
As my local influence grew, I met my tribe of similar people, also wanting to help their local restaurants and we built this community of foodie influencers. I started to not only talk with the owners but also build friendships with them that mean more to me than any chain restaurant deal. #collaborationovercompetition.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There will be challenges as social media grows with new apps and new trends. Being consistent is key to maintaining the audience, whether it’s posting new content or advertising other pages with their content. I would say a struggle I have is trying to stay unique and adapt to my content.
When I started my page I had reaction videos since you didn’t see many content creators actually tasting their food and talking about it, once I noticed my reaction videos weren’t sticking to viewers, since they were too long, I had to get better with my editing in order to post a solid reaction in under 1 minute. I continue to explore and learn other editing avenues, to help with getting my content out.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I currently work at a payroll company and coordinate with clients on setting up file transfers for their 401k, and workers comp. I specialize in project management so working on multiple tasks is second nature to me.
I’m known for being very social and engaging with my team, and I believe that sets me apart from others, as I have no problem starting conversations with anyone. I’ve become most proud of my growth, and of the reputation I’ve built as a hard worker and leader by mentoring others that are new.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Simply asking can go a long way! Reaching out, networking, and asking to be included in promotions will not only gain you experience but will gain you insight into becoming a foodie influencer or promoter.
