Today we’d like to introduce you to Winnie Colon.
Winnie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Our business came to me very unexpectedly. We were in search of a more natural and pure elderberry syrup for our children in preparation for flu season. We also wanted something that tasted better than what we were buying in stores. Once we tried homemade elderberry syrup, we loved the taste and decided to try making it ourselves. After a few trials to perfect our recipe, we began making it for our family and close friends in November 2019. They loved it! And so they shared it on Instagram and FB and it quickly caught the attention of people.
We transformed this into a small business because there was such a high demand for this product, we were blown away by the interest and support. People of all ages love the taste and the simple whole ingredients we use in every batch.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Thankfully it has been a smooth road for the most part. The hardest part has been how to make it accessible to everyone who wants it! Our customers live all across Central FL and it’s a bit challenging to reach everyone on a regular basis. We are always thinking of easier ways to get our product out to customers, we do so by offering local pick ups and shipping. This year we were blessed to wholesale our product to three retail locations, The Downtown Exchange in Clermont, Lake Meadow Naturals in Ocoee and in September 2021, we will also be in Serenitea Apothecary Market in Longwood.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Winnie’s Elderberry Goods specializes in handmade elderberry syrup made with all organic ingredients and raw local honey. We love making a wholesome product that is good for the immune system and delicious for even the pickiest of eaters. We are known for the quality of the product, our customer relationships and our faith, God has truly called us to provide this to our community. We are proud to be a family-owned business that is authentic and caring. We work as a team, husband and wife, in all areas of our business, our young kids also have a great interest to help out and learn from us.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was the introverted, calm and studious type but very sarcastic! I’ve always loved science and got my Bachelors in Pre-Med/ Biology. I’m not a doctor, just a stay at home mom making delicious elderberry syrup and helping people in a different way!
