Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvona Gonzalez.
Hi Yvona, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been a dancer my whole life. I got my Dance Performance degree from Valencia, but while I was in college I had lots of injuries and health concerns that limited my abilities and ended lots of opportunities for me. Then I found holistic nutrition and decided to become a personal trainer. It’s crazy to understand now that what I was eating was actually slowing down my healing and causing more of the inflammation. I never thought I’d see a day where I wasn’t in pain all the time. I am able to do way more now than when I was younger and I am just so grateful for everything I’ve learned and the determination I grew to prove the doctors wrong. Now I share my knowledge with as many people as I can and help them develop a healthier and happier lifestyle. I understand that the majority of this journey is mindset and try to help my clients with over tools that will help them achieve their goals. I also teach dance classes including ballet, hip hop, modern, contemporary, belly dancing, pole and more. I always make my dance classes more fitness-related to help build a stronger foundation and to have fun while working out!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has definitely been a ton of up and downs along this journey since I am pretty much doing it all on my own. As much as I gain clients, I lose them. Accidents happen, people lose their job, people move, the list goes on. I’ve had people steal my choreography and take credit FOR it. And although I know, it takes spending money to make money when you invest in your business, but I’ve invested more than I’ve made. I really never have a day off and have lost lots of friends, as well as upset family members. It’s not always easy, but it’s definitely worth it! I wouldn’t want to work for anyone ever again. It’s also built my character so much and has helped me grow as a person. I absolutely love what I do and wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am most known right now for my pole classes. I love teaching the fundamentals and helping women understand the proper muscle groups being worked so they can feel stronger on the pole. I incorporate my technical training in my choreography and love to create fluid movement. I also love teaching other styles of dance and fitness including resistance training to help women tone up and feel sexier in their skin. What sets me apart is I always can read my clients when they’re not in the best mood. I always try to create a safe place for my clients to know they have an ear that will listen and let them release any fears or stress they may be having. I’m more than a coach I’m a friend.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I like to give back to the community, as well as bring them together with fun events related in health & fitness, dance, art, and bringing small businesses together.
