Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Knight-Rezarie.
Hi Adrian, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started my nonprofit in December 2019. I have always had a love for financial literacy and realized that it was not easily accessible to people who looked like me. So, I started Connect and Conquer Inc.
Our mission is to educate, inspire and empower women of color to become knowledgeable in Financial Literacy and Life Skills to break generational curses and improve their daily life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting the nonprofit was not an easy process. I had the heart and the desire but not the knowledge. I reached out to several people who I thought could help me but they did not want to help. I was discouraged at first but I kept pushing. I started researching and studying about nonprofits. In my process, I met some strangers who were more than willing to help me along the journey. This took me stepping out and doing what I felt I was called to do which is be of service to others.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work primarily as an Elementary Educator. Teaching is my passion. I also teach Financial Literacy through my nonprofit. For the financial literacy piece I specialize in budgeting and savings. I am known for my accountability. The ability to hold myself accountable, as well as those I come in contact with. I am most proud of the work I do as an Educator. To be able to help build kids up and provide them knowledge makes my heart proud. I am strong believer that knowledge is power and I am glad to be a part of sharing knowledge with our next generation.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would be to Trust the Process. Whenever you start a new journey there are going to be obstacles. Don’t give up on your dreams if you do the work and stay the course it will all work out.
Something I wish I knew when I started was that there are people out there who will help you. You just have to put yourself out there. It will not be the people who you expect to help that end up helping.
