Rising Stars: Meet Alaia Earnest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alaia Earnest.

Hi Alaia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Singing, playing, and moving to music has been my spirit since the young age of two. At the age of six, I was singing through the albums of “Phantom of the Opera” and “Les Miserables” and began accumulating my musical appreciation from all cultures and genres. Music was my language. I felt connected to it — that passion and connection hasn’t faded as I’ve grown into an adult, into a mom. In my childhood, I was blessed with opportunities in music lessons, theatre, sports, marine activities & sports, and an exposure to the arts. I grew up with parents that had feet in both the medical and the arts fields. My parents wanted to “break the cycle” from their sufferings and traumas from their childhood and create a more “healthful,” “normal” life for us – we all want that, right? Growing up in therapy, my passion for healing became just as strong as my passion for music – I wanted to bring the two together.

Fast forward to my college years, and I’m at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA studying Music Therapy. Family traumatics happen – I decided to head to Naropa University (a Buddhist University in Boulder, CO). There I study the music of India, meditation, contemplative education, music theory, and everything is groovy except one thing… ME. I came back to Florida. I met my husband, had my son — found my true purpose — becoming a mom. Being the person that instills the positive and the good, shows that there are highs and also lows, communicating in “healthful” ways, giving that unconditional love. More than anything – It has taught me to be that person for myself.

Music is a way of communication in our home… “Where words fail, music speaks…”

I also have a “bonus” daughter, which has been a journey and we have been blossoming together. I am grateful for her and the healing she’s given. I have found my own voice in becoming a mom. Instilling his confidence gave me the right to my own, I guess. That unconditional love I have inside is for everyone – I’d love to share It. And that is what I hope to do with my voice, my instruments. Sharing that love – healing vibrations.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My emotional journey has probably been my biggest obstacle (and continues to be so).

It is important to feel our feelings, own them, but not REACT based on them… I have found we all have a choice in our reactions.

That has been my biggest obstacle in each relationship in my life, especially the one with myself.

I’m learning to let things be as they are without the control – and I’m laughing more.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
