Rising Stars: Meet Alexis Bedoya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Bedoya

Hi Alexis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I struggled to find where I truly fit in. I wasn’t the best at academics, and sports never really clicked for me either. But one thing I always had was a deep connection to my creativity. Art, in any form, was where I found my voice. It was my escape and my way to express myself when I couldn’t quite figure out how to do it in other areas of life.

As I got older, I started paying attention to designer brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Their pieces exuded serenity and elegance — a quiet luxury that seemed timeless and refined. It was beautiful, no doubt, but something about it felt distant from my own style and the environment I came from. I wanted to create something that had that same sense of refined beauty, but with a twist that felt more grounded in the real world. I wanted to capture the effortless cool of streetwear, mixed with the grace of high fashion — something that felt authentic to who I was and where I came from.

I began to draw inspiration from the streets of Jersey and the fast-paced energy of New York, where street culture and high-end fashion often collide. I started creating pieces that reflected a blend of natural beauty and raw urban style — designs that would speak to the quiet elegance of high fashion but with the bold, vibrant energy of streetwear. I wanted my clothing to feel like it belonged to both worlds, with a timeless appeal but still connected to the streets that inspired me.

And that’s how my business was born. It wasn’t just about clothing; it was about creating a new narrative — one that embraced the beauty of natural expression, the power of creativity, and the boldness of street culture. My brand was my way of offering something fresh, something that captured both the elegance I admired and the authenticity I craved.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t a smooth road, though. Starting my business was far from easy, especially when I had no experience in the industry. There were so many doubts and learning curves along the way — from understanding how to turn my designs into actual products to navigating the logistics of running a business. I had no formal training, no mentorship at first, just a vision and the drive to make it happen.

But despite the challenges, I was lucky to have some incredible people in my corner. Along the way, I found mentors and supporters who guided me, shared their wisdom, and helped me make sense of the things I didn’t know. Their help was invaluable — from teaching me the ins and outs of manufacturing to showing me how to market and grow my brand. I learned how to fail forward, turning each setback into an opportunity for growth.

The journey wasn’t just about creating clothes; it was about learning, adapting, and constantly pushing myself to do better. The support I received along the way — from friends, family, and even people I met through networking — played a huge role in helping me keep going when things got tough. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a business owner, I always say that first and foremost, I’m an artist, and second, I’m a businessman. What sets me apart from others in the industry is my willingness to constantly evolve, to take inspiration from the elements around me, and to grow as an individual. I don’t just create for the sake of creating — I dive deep into every piece, drawing from my environment, my experiences, and my vision. This process is personal to me, and I believe it’s what gives my work its unique edge.

While many are quick to rush through the production process, I take my time. I understand the importance of not only delivering a product but also delivering something that’s truly meaningful. Quality is my top priority. Whether it’s in the design or the finished piece, I’m committed to making sure everything I create is impeccable. I’ve learned that the true value of art lies in the details, in the time and care that go into each decision.

I’m not afraid to change or evolve along the way. Being an artist means embracing the fluidity of creativity and allowing myself to grow with each collection. I believe that by staying true to my artistry while also learning to navigate the business side, I’m able to create something that resonates deeply with those who experience it — something that’s not just fashionable, but also authentic. That balance between art and business is what keeps me driven, and it’s what I believe sets my work apart from the rest.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has definitely played a role in my life and business, but I’ve learned that it’s not always about waiting for the right moment — it’s about being ready when luck does strike, and being able to create your own opportunities.

In the beginning, I didn’t have much. I didn’t come from a network of industry connections or have the experience that many others had. There were times when it felt like the odds were against me. I can’t deny that some things — like meeting the right mentor at the right time or finding an unexpected opportunity — seemed like good luck. For example, a random conversation with someone in the industry ended up opening doors I didn’t even know existed, and that was a turning point. That was luck. But what I realized soon after is that luck doesn’t just happen — it’s often the result of preparation, hard work, and being in the right mindset to seize those moments.

On the flip side, bad luck has also been part of the journey. There were countless times when things didn’t go according to plan — whether it was production delays, design setbacks, or financial struggles. At one point, I even lost a major supplier, and I thought it might be the end of the road for me. That felt like bad luck. But rather than letting it defeat me, I saw it as an opportunity to adapt and push through. Those so-called “bad luck” moments have often been the ones that forced me to be resourceful, to find new solutions, and to grow in ways I wouldn’t have otherwise.

In the end, I’ve come to realize that luck isn’t something you can control, but your response to it — whether it’s good or bad — is what truly shapes your journey. It’s about creating your own opportunities, staying persistent, and being open to the unexpected. It’s not always about luck itself, but about how you leverage those moments when they come your way.
