Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Rodriguez.
Hi Andrea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Andrea but all people call me La Morocha Makeup , I came to this country four years ago from Venezuela, my country. where I was already a make-up artist and stylist, here I had to start from scratch and do house keeping and waitress work and at the same time I was a make-up artist at home, when I arrived I only had one client and it was My sister-in-law built up my clientele little by little until I was able to set up my first business in the garage of my house. There I served my clients until later, and with a lot of work, I was able to open my first studio in Orlando and now I have more than 2500 clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Everything has been a rollercoaster of emotions, it’s incredible, but when I feel like I’ve hit rock bottom, I’ve gotten up and emerged stronger than ever. Now I remember a difficult part of my career: a couple of years ago when I was hospitalized for almost a month, feeling that I was losing my life I left the hospital wanting to eat the world and that was when I designed the 24-hour makeup challenge on Halloween for Guinness Records. I did it I put on 84 people in 24 hours it was not easy to recover from that it took me a long time but thank God and that challenge Orlando met me and believed in me.
Later, and when I thought I was ready for a study, my second pregnancy came. I thought I was not going to make it between the inauguration of the new place, the high-risk pregnancy and the long hours of work, it was not easy, but my dreams and God helped me to cope everything
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a cosmetologist, my specialty is makeup and hairstyle for weddings and for any type of event. Likewise, I offer hair repair treatments , formalin – free smoothing and haircuts.
I think that what identifies me most about my work and what I am most proud of is that it is not only external beauty when the client sits in my chair, it is to feel good inside and out, practically it is a psychology consultation carried out by the hand of makeup and hairstyle for your special occasion. I always consider that a girl who comes to my studio is because she wants to be listened to, she wants to look good and wants to improve her self-esteem and I do that
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I have always thought that something good comes out of the crisis thanks to the quarantine I had time to reassess myself and develop my straightening and hair treatment business, although it is hard to believe that after the quarantine was when I was able to acquire the most clientele.
