Rising Stars: Meet Bella Rivera and Cari Cano of Orlando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bella Rivera and Cari Cano.

Hi Bella and Cari, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Our story started four years ago in the kitchen, cooking meals together and discovering a shared love for creating new recipes and content that felt unique to us. Being together expanded our palates and pushed us to step outside our comfort zones, which naturally led us to exploring new restaurants. What started as a simple habit—trying a new spot each week—quickly turned into something we genuinely looked forward to.
Before long, we became the go-to for family and friends looking for food recommendations, and our excitement for discovering new places only grew. That passion inspired us to start sharing our experiences on TikTok and Instagram, where we showcase the restaurants and dishes we try along the way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of our biggest challenges has been navigating scheduling conflicts. As the two individuals behind GayGrubs, balancing our time can be difficult since we both work full-time jobs with opposite schedules. This often limits the amount of time we have together to create content.
Because of that, we’ve also struggled with consistency in posting. There have been times when our busy routines made it hard to stay on track. Another obstacle we’ve faced is feeling shy about recording in crowded places. However, we’ve worked on shifting our mindset—choosing to focus on our passion for content creation rather than worrying about what others might think.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Bella works in the food industry as a supervisor at Starbucks, where her day-to-day revolves around crafting drinks, preparing food, and creating positive experiences through customer interactions.

Cari works for The Walt Disney Company, helping guests plan their family vacations and create unforgettable memories by recommending places to stay, eat, and explore.

What we’re most proud of is the passion we share for what we do. This isn’t just something we post—it’s something we genuinely love and have fun with. What sets us apart is that we’re a couple who share the same passion, and you can see that connection in our content. Our love for food continues to bring us closer, and it shows in the way we experience and share every new place we try.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
As food influencers, we see risk as stepping outside our comfort zone in small but meaningful ways. One of our biggest risks was putting ourselves out there online—sharing our content while balancing full-time jobs and not knowing how people would respond.

As a lesbian couple, that vulnerability goes even deeper. We’ve had to accept that not everyone will be supportive, but choosing to show up authentically and share our relationship has been an important part of our journey.

We’ve also pushed ourselves creatively—trying new places, filming in busy environments, and staying consistent even when it’s challenging. Over time, we’ve learned that growth comes from those uncomfortable moments.

To us, risk is necessary. It’s about being true to who we are, taking chances, and trusting that it will lead us somewhere meaningful.
