Rising Stars: Meet Brandon Redd of Orlando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Redd

Hi Brandon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had an interest in the entertainment industry even from when I was a little kid. I remember watching movies and artists’ performances just thinking, “Man, I’d love to do something like that.” Fast forward to my teenage years and I got bit by the music bug. I was into poetry in middle school, so it was a natural progression for me to try my hand at rapping.

I’m the type of person that laser-focuses in on stuff when I’m determined to learn or just accomplish that thing that I’m setting out to conquer. I really fell in love with music and it became something I ended up being extremely passionate about. I even took it a step further and started to learn how to make beats because I felt like only I knew the sound I was trying to achieve through my records.

I’ve spent years perfecting my craft and honing my skills to where I’m now able to rap, sing, song-write and produce at a level where I feel very confident in all that I do musically.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe any road worth taking doesn’t come without its bumps, so smooth road? No, but I like to think that’s a big part of the reason I’m at where I am today. My sound is really unique to me which has been one of my biggest strengths, but being different from the pack invites resistance. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told that I needed to switch up my style to be more like what the “hot” new wave is.

I’m big on my music sounding and feeling like me, so I do my best to stay true to who I am as a person and artist. I definitely think that has made my journey a little tougher than others but I know it’ll be more rewarding than making it from being someone I’m not.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a rapper, producer, song-writer and singer. My pride and joy is being a one man band. I love that I get to create a song and even entire projects all on my own. I feel like it makes my music that much more personal because everything you hear from my records is 100% me. That’s one of the many things that sets me apart from your typical artist. Based off my catalog so far, my niche has become this cool thing where I balance replay value and substance on my records. I might make a track that’s a club banger on the surface, but when you really digest the lyrics, I’m talking about some relatable sh*t. I’ve said this 100 times, but my goal whenever I make music is to create something that people can really resonate with. I want my music to be enjoyed by listeners for decades upon decades to come.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Without a doubt, my mom and dad deserve a ton of credit for where I am as an artist today. My parents supported me in anything I was interested in and encouraged me to excel in the things I was passionate about. It’s not common that a kid tells his parents he wants to be a rapper and they don’t immediately shut the idea down. My mom and dad really made sure I had the tools, knowledge and work ethic to be something special in a game of so many trying to pursue the same dream. I’m forever thankful and grateful that Allah blessed me with them. They’re a huge reason I do this. I want to make sure I take care of them like they’ve always taken care of me.
