Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Carolina.
Hi Nina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Modeling itself can be compared to a spiritual dance; moving my body and using it for art has always been very important to me. I got into a car accident when I was 7 years old with my grandmother. It was very tragic. After being stuck in a wheelchair with a full body cast on for about 6 months, I had to relearn how to walk. The truth is, with being at such a young age and going through what I went through, I learned the importance of patience and gratitude very early on. As the years went on, modeling kind of jumped out at me. There was a tight-knit group of Orlando creatives that I found through Instagram, and it quickly became a swirl of inspiration for me. I wanted to not only network and find new friends but also who I was. There were tall girls and fit girls, and I quickly wondered where I stood. I vouched to find my place! I then stumbled upon the epiphany that I belong everywhere and anywhere I found beauty. After I got published in my first magazine, @horizontmag that’s where the floodgates of opportunity started pouring in. I not only got to travel to different countries to model, but I also started to pick up the camera myself and started to do video work. You see, this is how I view life: an endless game of opportunity. You get to choose what you make out of it. I just released my new single ‘Tulum’, which was inspired by my modeling in Mexico. If you ever get the chance, go! The people, the air, the beach sounds—it’s all an endless wave of change. You really do come back a new you. I hope to inspire anyone who once was struck by such difficulty. With patience and taking the steps necessary, you too can retrace your steps and relearn how to walk.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like most creatives, there are creative blocks. I call them ‘the calm before the storm. My storm was having very little support at the start of my journey with my life in front of my camera. However, I persevered. I met people who changed my life for the better and for the worse. I think learning who you are comes with that process. As I grew, I learned to trust myself and to have a sober mindset. With a sober mind, you gain sober thoughts, and that’s all you need to create magic.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I never can call what I do ‘work.’ I sacrificed so much to get here. I spent years creating a platform where I can be accepted as the true me. Although I’m still figuring out who that is, I do know this: I love getting weird and putting on new costumes (gosh, I hate calling it that) to me, they’re actually costumes and personas that are just fun to explore. The better word for it is Cosplay. I do a lot of that on TikTok @ninaxcarolina, and my twitch is @ninaxcarolina The fan base that I established has also asked me to sing, so I listened. I am still trying to find my voice and sound, and I hope to engineer and produce music soon too. Don’t you ever forget that the sky is the limit!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Find what inspires and shakes the ground beneath you to get started. For me, it’s kickboxing which I started after I got back on my feet, later after my car accident. During this time of my life, I was able to train and build muscle in my legs which I lost while in a full-body cast. I got to feel strong after watching so many of my friends run around when I so desperately wanted to. I felt bound to the wheelchair beneath me. It was just about time, I rose up. So, my advice is to find your reason to rise in this life and never let go of that feeling.
