Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Boryszak.
Hi Cassandra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started learning photography after my first baby turned one. He was changing so much and so quickly. I wanted to remember every little detail. A friend of mine actually nudged me into getting a good camera and I bought my first decent camera on eBay, a Canon Rebel T3i. I was constantly practicing my new hobby by photographing my own children, my nieces and nephews and children of friends. It quickly evolved into a little business once friends of friends began reaching out to me to photograph their families. I am so thankful for all of the families I have the opportunity to work with and especially those that trusted me with their precious memories very early on!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Transitioning from a hobby to a business has been an interesting path. I have experienced taking on too much, burnout and moving from WNY to FL. Each season has been an opportunity to learn and grow. I think everything really started to come together from a business perspective once we were settled in Orlando. I didn’t realize that being self-employed could be very isolating, and it was rejuvenating to meet other photographers and creatives. I went to my first workshop, got to know some photographers in my area and started connecting more and more with others in my industry. It’s been inspiring to have peers to bounce ideas off of and to just talk about similar things we are interested in. I also feel so grateful for all the clients turned friends, vendor friends and the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people through this little business!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a natural light photographer who shoots lifestyle portraits. I love the nostalgic look of real film and try to emulate the gorgeous colors and timeless style. I also use medium format film whenever an opportunity presents itself. My goal is to provide a fun experience while capturing beautiful memories with genuine emotion and a natural feel.
My passion for photography arose while trying to navigate through motherhood when I had moved from Florida to my husband’s hometown of Buffalo, NY, with our one-year-old baby. Through this journey, I have found inspiration in my own children and the families I have met. Photography is not only a creative outlet for me, but a way to serve others and meet new friends. I have been capturing organic moments for others for over eight years.
I specialize in lifestyle portraiture of motherhood, newborns and families. I have recently been doing some branding work for other creative entrepreneurs and I photograph a handful of weddings each year. I like to offer a relaxed experience and capture moments that my clients will want to remember forever. I want to make mothers feel seen because I truly believe that what they do on a daily basis, as mundane as it may seem, is the most important work for our children. As a mother myself, I understand the need for tangible memories as it all passes too quickly.
The work that I am always most proud of are the images that make me feel something. I love to see connection with real emotion. This will often come from a prompt, but I imagine these smiles, glances and knowing looks are the subtle nuances that happen daily and we are just bringing them out in the photographs so these seasons can be remembered.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue making lifestyle portraits, offering more education to other photographers and creating community within our industry. I am currently working on a couple of projects to make these dreams happen!
