Rising Stars: Meet Daijha Ali-Neely

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daijha Ali-Neely.

Hi Daijha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When j was younger, I was always interested in hair. My grandma is a licensed cosmetologist and my mom used to do me and my 2 sisters’ hair all the time. One summer when I came to visit my grandma, I found a mannequin head and asked my grandma to teach me how to braid and she agreed. For the rest of the summer every single day I changed the mannequin’s hairstyle. I got tired of the doll and began to practice on my mom and my sisters. I got so good people would ask my family who did their hair and they would say me. People then began to come to me to get their hair done. I soon decided to start a business called Daijha does hair and I offer all types of services from weaves, and braids, to natural styles. I am so grateful to have found something I love that also supports me financially. You know what they say if you love your job is it really a job? I say absolutely not!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been easy. A stylist’s main problem would be building a consistent clientele list. To be a successful stylist you have to have customers. It is hard to build a clientele for me because I’m in school so I travel from Florida to Georgia. Sometimes a client in Georgia wants their hair done and I am in Florida and vice versa.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a hairstylist who specializes in anything. I am known for being able to do any style a client throws my way. The night before I watch a YouTube video and produce it the next day. Sometimes I barely watch the video. I am so proud of how easily I can duplicate a style on anyone. I am different because of the love I have for doing hair. I take pride in my work. I believe every head I touch represents me and I make sure every style is perfect.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
The best resource I use is my grandmother and mother. Hearing their experiences firsthand has given me the confidence to believe in myself and continue to grow my business.
