Today we’d like to introduce you to Damarys Correa.
Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Although I did bake with my grandma as a child, my story isn’t like others. I knew I wanted to do baking in my senior year when I decided to go to culinary school. A chef from Le Cordon Bleu came to visit my culinary arts elective class junior year. She was inspired and excited to talk about food and the school. I was always good at cooking; at the time, I needed to figure out my future and where I was headed. So I took a trip with my mom to Le Cordon Bleu in Orlando, and by the end of my visit, I was also so inspired and sure that’s where I wanted to be. Only I was wrong. In those short few months of taking culinary classes, I realized it wasn’t meant for me, but I was always intrigued and curious to see all of the Pastry & Baking classes. I spoke with the head of the school and asked if I could switch to Pastry & Baking. By God’s grace, I was able to switch. My very first class was when I finally knew what my passion had been; baking! I loved every bit of it. After graduating and years of gaining baking experience in different kitchens, it was when I had my firstborn son that made me want to own a bakery business. Making cakes for family & close friends was a great feeling- but gaining customers & amazing reviews were even better!
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but the journey has been smooth so far.
Unfortunately, it was not a smooth road. I had to keep taking breaks from the business each time I had a child. Aside from owning a business, I wanted to grow a family even more. When I was fully ready in 2019, I made the best decision and legally owned the business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in Custom decorated cookies and cakes! I love being able to do both cake & cookies. Having 4 kids has shown me how much better any party can be with both! I am most proud of my custom cookie designs and my achievements. Takes a lot of patience and practice! I believe what sets me aside from others is that most bakers know their limit and will say, “no, I can’t do that design,” but I will constantly challenge myself and say, “yes, I can,” and then use the skills I have learned and create precisely what they are wanting. I push myself every time, and I love the challenge!
What characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to if you had to?
The organization is most important to me, but I also thrive in being detail-oriented. Being organized helps everything go smoothly. It helps tremendously when having the skill to focus on every detail.
