Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Huang.
Hi Danny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
As a foodie, UCF graduate, and Orlando resident for almost 12 years, my partner and I are always looking for new concepts and trends in the culinary world to bring home. When we came across CrunCheese in Las Vegas, we were intrigued by the long lines of people who gathered each day to buy the food that we had to go try ourselves. At first glance, we noticed the golden-brown coating was unlike any corn dog or “hot dog on a stick” that we’ve had before. Then, the colorful and creatively curated sauce combinations that you can add on top really made their products not only appeasing to the eye but very photographable–fit for foodies like us! After taking our first bite, the stringy mozzarella filling stretched so long that we needed to twirl it around the hot dog so it wouldn’t hit the floor! We were hooked! For the remainder of our trip, we stopped by each day to try another item from their menu.
As we were flying back to Orlando, we both thought to ourselves, we need to bring this concept back home. The very next day, we inquired about the franchise, and the rest is history.
We are very excited today to introduce CrunCheese to the Orlando market and even more so to the UCF community–one that has given us so much; we feel this is a small way that we can give back by bringing this sweet, savory, mouthwatering snack to the neighborhood in hopes that everyone will have the same reaction that we had when we first tried it, which was “Love at first bite!”.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting any new business has its challenges, but with this being a franchise, we’ve had a lot of help and support from corporate. One thing that we were caught off-guard by though were all the inflationary costs, supply-chain issues, and labor shortages that have occurred post-pandemic, which has caused delays and pushed us over budget. But despite these struggles, we were confident in the brand and location that we knew we had to overcome any challenges to get CrunCheese open.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My partner and I are both immigrants from Asia who have found a home in the United States where we have been given many opportunities in life, education, careers, and now in our own business. We come from a country where night markets and street food are very prominent so we felt it was only natural that we end up opening a restaurant serving snacks that are suitable and appealing for all ages.
We’d like to think that we specialize in the hospitality, and we are most proud of being able to start our own business today–to become our own bosses.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk-taking has been a part of my DNA since an early age when my family and I made the decision for me to move to the United States by myself to continue my studies in the hope of a better life and opportunities in America. Through my studies and various job experiences, I’ve learned from all the successes and failures. When my partner and I made the decision to franchise CrunCheese, we wanted to limit some of the risks by starting a business with an established name and track record. Opening your business (any business) is a risk, but we are confident in the name/brand/team/food that CrunCheese has built.
