Rising Stars: Meet David Jaimes of Close to Downtown Kissimmee

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Jaimes.

Hi David, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My musical path began since I was a child, unconsciously at my early age I was already able to demonstrate my attraction for wind instruments, playing, although without sonorous definition, a toy flute that I had. At the same time, I always belonged to the marching band of my kindergarten school. At the age of 7, I began my musical studies in an arts academy in my city, taking my first steps in learning to play the sweet flute and to read music. With this, I began at such an early age, to make my first presentations to small groups of people, which gradually increased in quantity over time.

At the age of 9, I decided to start with a new instrument, being that one the piano, an instrument which attracted my attention since I was just a child, and which generated in me a lot of curiosity to learn that complexity wrapped between so many keys and endless possible combinations to reproduce the perfect melody.

Two years after studying piano, still continuing with the flute, I decided to move forward in this musical path, and I entered the conservatory of my city, Sistema Pedagogico Orquestal headed by Master Pablo Tarazona. In that place I fell in love with music again, knowing all the instruments that can be found in a Symphony Orchestra, and in the middle of that journey I started in my main instrument, continuing even in the winds, I went up to the transverse flute, which at my young age was the most professional “a metal flute”.

Also learning about music theory and grammar, developing my ear and rhythm, and together with my main instrument, an integrated learning. Always wanting to surpass myself, I wanted to give the best of myself in everything I did, and only a year later I managed to become the First Flutist of the Junior Symphony Orchestra of the conservatory.

Along with music, I was also inclined to learn about video and audio editing, almost self-taught, I learned to handle editing software and as a result, I opened my YouTube channel, where in combination with music, I began to upload video-cover of different songs, and little by little, perfecting both areas to perform increasingly higher quality work and promote in turn the art.

Two years after I started my way with the flute, I made my debut in the Symphony Orchestra of the Sistema Pedagogico Orquestal, being also the first flutist. That first concert was the beginning of 5 years of concerts under that same position with the orchestra, in different auditoriums and stages of my city, learning in each one something new and every day growing more as a musician and flutist, doing different projects and activities, and studying day by day to enrich all the knowledge, even in times of pandemic performing virtual concerts for different events and festivals that were held digitally.

This precise time was of much more growth as I could apply both music and video editing to create new projects and works that arose. Little by little I began to see new horizons and began to realize that to continue on this great path, I needed to make a change in my life, all with a single goal.

Every change entails different sacrifices, and to get to where I am today, I had to leave my orchestra, my family, my friends, my lifestyle, and even my country. Wherever I go, I will always be accompanied by the memories I have built, the experiences I have lived, and the music that is the main part of my life; and despite the different challenges to get to where I am today, I still know that there is still a long way to go, I know that there are many challenges to overcome, many things to learn, many people to meet, and new experiences to live. This is just the beginning of the story, and I know that many more stories will be written along a dream, a dream called Music.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any road to travel, everything will never be perfect as far as the road is concerned, and there will always be different obstacles and challenges that have arisen, but that help us to overcome more and more and grow as people, towards the goal we want to reach, so I have been no stranger to this, and one of the main obstacles that I always had since I started with music, has been trying to grow as a musician in a region that little supports art, but the best way to overcome it was to go out and show that art exists, culture exists, music exists, and we can sow this seed in the new generations that are to come.

A challenge that is always encountered when learning anything is the learning process, which is a challenge, and an instrument requires a lot of time and dedication to develop skills and level, this is the biggest challenge to overcome because it is a daily challenge, with different highs and lows, but it will always have its reward.

Another obstacle has always been a place to rehearse, since as a musician there has always been the search for a place to study without disturbing others, since, like any learning process, there are mistakes, and these mistakes are sonorous, which are not pleasant to all ears.

Always as a musician, you must have an instrument and getting one is a challenge because many times you do not have the resources to acquire it, this being one of the first challenges that I faced at the beginning of my life in the musical career.

Another challenge that is always important to keep in mind, are the responsibilities and extra duties that one has apart from music, these duties often take up the proposed time to rehearse and play, which tends to be in some ways an obstacle, but with good time management can be solved.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a flutist musician with a current trajectory of 11 years in music and 7 years with my main instrument, specialized in academic music but also being flexible to any song or theme which can be interpreted; I am also an editor specialized in music videos which I have made for my own channel on YouTube as well as for external projects.

I am known by the people I have interacted with for the various things I can do with music, especially my art and my main instrument, the flute, but also for my creative ability when creating content to convey my music to people.

I feel very proud of the success I have achieved with music, of the learning I have acquired over the years, of the person I have become, and who every day I build someone better to offer the best of me to other people.

What can differentiate me from others apart from music, is the enthusiasm with which I usually do things, the personal touch, that intangible stamp that I always want to leave in everything I do, being that my personal signature for all the people who can see my work.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The luck factor has also been key in this path, and I have been able to see it since I decided to take the big leap and leave my country. Being in a new country, many things change, and it is something to be afraid of, but luck in this new environment has helped me to continue my academic-musical studies, managing to place myself quickly in the appropriate environment to continue growing and acquiring the necessary knowledge to move forward; that luck has allowed me to meet great people who have given me a hand and have shown me the path I should follow, giving me their grain of sand to keep moving forward.
