Hi Derline, We are so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always loved artistry, and I’ve always been passionate about beauty. So, in 2016, I decided to turn my love and passion into my career. I decided to become a makeup artist and a skin care specialist. I own a beauty bar and facial spa called Signature Looks Beauty and Spa in the Edgewater area adjacent to Winter Park. I enjoy making people feel beautiful by enhancing their natural features. I am also enthusiastic about skincare, taking care of the skin to boost confidence and promote a healthy blank canvas.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to entrepreneurship is only smooth for some. However, I have been blessed with a supportive spouse, family, and great friends who have been very encouraging, making the challenging days tolerable. Some of my struggles have been changing my mindset to being self-employed, learning the ropes on my own, making mistakes, and making changes to prevent the recurrence of errors. Furthermore, I want to create a blueprint for my business that I can be proud of.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in natural beauty makeup, bridal, and glam, and my work is customized to the needs of my clients. I also provide comprehensive skin care, including skin assessment, facials, natural peel, hydra facial, waxing, ombre brows, makeup classes, and product recommendations for maintaining skin barrier/health. I am known for my signature looks, customer service, and unique approach to providing a lasting impression on my clients. I am proud of my cosmetic line, Signature Looks by D. Modeste. I was able to turn my dream into reality. I can create a safe and long-lasting product for women of all ethnicities. I am also proud of my ability to retain clients and put a smile on someone’s face with every encounter. My positive attitude, professional approach, and energetic personality set me apart.
We’d like to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I do not believe in luck. I believe in faith, hard work, and dedication. I’ve always approached my life and business by putting God first.
