Desmond, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Desmond Garcia, a real estate professional with over 15 years of experience in sales, business development, and client-focused service. Before real estate, I worked across various industries, including Human Capital Management, Consulting, Banking, and Hospitality. While I found success in these fields, something always felt off—I wanted more control over my time, income, and future.
Many of my closest friends and family encouraged me to pursue real estate, but I hesitated due to the lack of a guaranteed bi-weekly paycheck. I would learn though nothing is ever guaranteed. Over the years, watching companies lay off employees and experiencing career stagnation made me realize that financial security isn’t tied to a single paycheck or industry, so I started looking for ways to diversify my income, which changed everything.
Unaware that COVID would soon disrupt everything, I took a risk and volunteered to open a new market for my previous employer in Texas. The unexpected challenge of working from the confines of my apartment forced me to build relationships through Zoom in an unfamiliar territory while the world was in chaos. During my time in Texas, I would meet a Compass agent while looking for a Halloween costume. I didn’t realize how a chance meeting would lead me to where I am today. After living in Texas for a year, I moved back to Orlando where I played a key role in establishing and expanding Compass Real Estate in Orlando, Tampa, and St. Pete. Throughout my time with Compass, I was challenged to think outside the box and tap into my entrepreneurial spirit, and connected with dozens of agents across the country, which once again pulled me closer to pursuing real estate full-time.
After four years of helping build Compass Orlando and working with top real estate professionals, I decided it was time to bet on myself and fully embrace my entrepreneurial spirit. Today, I’m proud to be part of The Christensen Group at Compass, working alongside industry leaders Chris and Julie Christensen.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Looking back, my journey has been filled with challenges, pivots, and continuous growth. But every step—taking calculated risks, learning from top entrepreneurs, overcoming obstacles, and building a thriving career—has prepared me for where I am today. I’m deeply grateful for my friends and family, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in my success. I have found that having a strong foundation in family and close friends, is vital, especially when life gets unpredictable.
I was raised by young parents who had me at an early age, along with three siblings. While we weren’t poor, we faced struggles. Despite this, my parents never let circumstances define our future. They taught me to focus on what could be, rather than what was missing, a lesson that has guided me throughout my life.
Early in my career, I found success as an employee but continually felt stuck. I remember starting a job and being asked if I had any questions and responding with: “What do I need to do to get promoted?”. The response I received was that I should focus on where I was first before looking too far ahead. I remember starting jobs, working hard to get promoted and then hitting a wall, more than once. One thing most people that know me don’t know is that at one point I gave up on working as an employee, and because I was so stubborn, I lived out of my car trying to make it as an entrepreneur with no plan as to how I was going to make it. I thought I would just use everything I knew to figure something out and eventually would achieve success.
Thankfully, that didn’t last too long, and shortly thereafter I connected with a group of entrepreneurs who transformed my perspective on business and wealth-building. They showed me that life didn’t have to be confined to a traditional job or a single stream of income. I remember immediately asking the single most powerful question I think anyone can ask:
“Would you be willing to mentor me and teach me what you’re doing?”
That question changed everything. I began building my own business. I leveraged the mentorship and leadership training to advance my career, and continued acquiring new skills. However, I still questioned whether working for someone else was what I truly wanted.
I learned to embrace uncertainty, push past doubt, and create opportunities instead of waiting for them. Now, as I fully immerse myself in real estate, I know challenges will come—market shifts, competition, and industry changes—but I’ve been prepared for this moment. I’ll continue evolving, learning, and finding innovative ways to provide value to my clients.
The road hasn’t been easy, but it has been worth it. Every challenge has allowed me to grow, lead, and help others do the same.
Would I do it all over again? Absolutely. 🚀

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Despite being deeply immersed in real estate, leadership, and high-performance coaching, I have a strong creative side—particularly in photography.
Most people see me as analytical, and strategic, but I also have an adventurous spirit that fuels my creativity. Whether it’s standing on top of the Zugspitze in Germany, discovering hidden photography spots, or pushing myself physically and mentally through personal growth and fitness, I constantly seek experiences that challenge my perspective. This blend of strategy, creativity, and drive is what makes me stand out in everything I do.
