Today we’d like to introduce you to Dora Williams.
Hi Dora, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, my name is Dora, and I am the founder of Pieces Design by Dora; my journey began when I was at a patient’s house working as an LPN. Whenever I visited this 90-year-old woman, she asked if I wanted to make earrings. I would tell her I wasn’t. I was there to give her medicine and draw her blood. One day I went to her house, and she explained to me why I should be learning how to make jewelry; she explained to me this could be a long-term investment, or you could do it as a hobby, so I sat down, and she bought out all the materials, beads finishing, pendants, charms, etc.! It was like I was in jewelry heaven, store, class. It felt so good and relaxed; I just knew this was something I wanted to pursue. I sat there for hours, not realizing I had other patients to see. To make my long story short, that was how I started making custom-made jewelry accessories for men, women, and children. I love what I do and create. It has not only inspired me, it has helped many people with their lives as well. I don’t do it for the money; I do it for the smiles, hugs, and laughs I enjoy putting on my customers’ faces. It’s gratifying.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So one of my greatest challenges was putting prices on my items; I was not a good negotiator or salesperson I was horrible at it lol!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a case manager. I specialize in adults with mental illnesses and autism, and medical conditions. I am known for being a fashionista, giver and having a big heart; I also have a nonprofit organization for young people (A Girlz Day Inc.). What sets me apart from others is that I love God; I the very loyal, loving, and kind. I love to help others.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love everything about this city, even the hot weather, lol. We need more transportation (city buses) for those who can not afford a car.
