Rising Stars: Meet Dr. Luv

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Luv.

Hi Dr., we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in New Jersey, Started music young being in church developed a love for the drums. My uncle was/is a DJ and Every time I spent time with him it was always music/DJ’n or basketball. Ended up in choir in high school taught me some things. I was in college at a community school about to start my basketball season and I messed up my patella tendon and ever since decided to just stick with music. I grew up around a lot of talent rappers and singers so I was always the one to take the step back and find beats for them. Lead to me making the decision to come out here to Florida to go to FullSail University where I graduated with my bachelor’s in Recording Arts. Then after that I just networked as hard as I could in the downtown area to get my foot in the door and now, I’m here!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not being able to keep a job. Not having enough money to fix my cars.

Equipment breaking

Equipment getting stolen.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make beats for rappers and singers. I also know how to engineer a session. I can also mix and master.

Born and raised in New Jersey so I was back ‘n forth from NY a lot. Grew up in that hip hop/ r&b scene with a lot of DJs and sampling music. Plus, I’m Jamaican so I love dancing and being in control of a party.

I can make any style of beat but my comfort zone and what I make a lot of is sample chop beats or sample loop beats…

What do you think about luck?
Oh, I have A LOT of bad luck, but luckily, I was raised in a church so I’m big on keeping the faith alive and God only puts his strongest fighters through the toughest situations because he knows we got what it takes to make it through. So that’s why I’m still here fighting
