Rising Stars: Meet Edith Sawyer of Lake Mary

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edith Sawyer.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I relocated from Germany to the US in 2009 with the aim of enhancing my skills as a Nail Technician and completed Beauty School in Bellevue, WA, obtaining qualifications as a Master Esthetician and Nail Technician. In 2016, I settled in Lake Mary. Two years later, I acquired the skill of applying Lash Extensions, which I added to my service portfolio. In 2019, I became an Educator for a Tampa-based company, instructing various new Facial Treatments. In 2020, I expanded my expertise to Permanent Makeup, and in 2022, I completed a medical tattooing course focusing on Areola Tattooing. Currently, I offer a wide range of facial services, including hydro facials, peels, and customized treatment facials with a specialization in anti-aging, along with Lash Extensions, Gel-Focused Nail Services, and Permanent Makeup, as well as Medical Tattooing of Areolas for Cancer Survivors. I love what I do, and I enjoy every day because my work is so versatile and my clients are always a pleasure.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Growing a business always comes with its ups and downs. It requires significant investment in both time and money to educate yourself and stay updated on new trends, while also ensuring that you choose the right ones to follow. I experienced a wrist injury that sidelined me for six months, which resulted in losing clients; however, my most loyal customers either waited for me or returned once I was back. The pandemic posed additional challenges; initially, I had to close down, and then I worked to create a safe environment to ensure everyone could work while being protected. Overall it is challenging to keep clients and get new ones. But I love what I do.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As I mentioned, I do nails, lashes, facials, and tattooing. I love that I can be creative with nail designs; I can change someone’s look with lashes and new eyebrows. I love that I can essentially beautify someone from head to toe. Since I am trained in multiple beauty procedures, I have the ability to enhance their look in different ways. They can come to one trusted person for their beauty needs. I love that I have extensive knowledge in all these different services. That sets me apart from others who only provide one service. The most rewarding part is the honor of tattooing someone’s areolas after they battled cancer. I am able to give them a sense of normalcy after a painful and scary journey. When they come to me, I am their final destination before they feel truly normal again.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Mmmhh, I have many, its hard to pick one… I would say the one when I was about 7 and my Dad took me on a boat trip
back in Hungary where I was born. We were vacationing in Balaton, a big lake and it was so much fun to go fast over the water. Wind in the hair, and after the boat ride we had ice cream. I was allowed to get as much as I wanted. I think since then I have a thing for speed and sweets lol
