Meet Farida Wazir

Today we’d like to introduce you to Farida Wazir.

Hi Farida, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started this business eight years ago. I was throwing a baby shower for my sister who lived in San Diego and looked online for cool new ideas for baby showers, when candy buffets popped up! I had never heard of this and thought I could do this myself. Once I realized that it was going to cost way too much to buy all the containers, platters, candy etc. to make it beautiful, I hired a local company to do it for me and everyone loved it! As someone who is creative and loves throwing parties, I decided to start a business combining my love of sweets and all things pretty and Florida Candy Buffets was born!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely been a smooth road and a steady climb up until 2020. When I first started, I did 25 events my first year and in 2019 did 132 events. All that came to a screeching halt last March when most of our events either cancelled or rescheduled to 2021 and I struggled trying to stay afloat. But, this is a new year and people are ready to celebrate again! With the help of our regular, loyal clients and vendor partners, we’ve managed to sell out March, and April’s pretty full too! The Orlando events industry is strong and resilient and I’m confident that we will bounce back!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Florida Candy Buffets, we create one-of-a-kind candy and dessert buffets that coordinate with the colors and theme of your event making it a show stopper that’s not only beautiful to look at but delicious to eat as well! As the saying goes, “you eat with your eyes,” and we aim to create a stunning display of sweets that will be sure to wow your guests! My favorite moment is when I see the client’s face lights up when they see the table for the first time and at that moment, I know that all the hard work and meticulous details it took to create this display was all worth it!

Can you talk about how you think about risk?
I’m not sure if this is risk-taking but I’m always trying to introduce new things and push my business further. For example, we were the first ones to introduce the candy cart and the donut wall in the Orlando market! My favorite part of my job is getting to be creative, and experimenting with new products, techniques, etc. is a huge part of that.
