Rising Stars: Meet Ginny Myers Sain of St. Cloud

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ginny Myers Sain

Hi Ginny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I come from a family of writers, but I never considered myself a writer. Although I did write some in high school and college, my first love has always been the theatre. I have a degree in theatre and I’ve spent most of my professional life teaching theatre and directing plays and musicals. But when Covid came along and temporarily shut down all live theatre, I started to get more serious about writing. I had a story idea I had been interested in developing, so I sat down to really try to get it finished and polished up. I was able to do that, and I started querying literary agents. Once I had an agent, he submitted that book to publishers and it sold in an six-way auction almost immediately to an editor at Penguin Random House. Now I have four books – DARK AND SHALLOW LIES (2021), SECRETS SO DEEP (2022), ONE LAST BREATH (2024), and WHEN THE BONES SING (2025) all from Penguin Teen. My debut novel, DARK AND SHALLOW LIES, is a New York Times bestseller, an Indie Bookstore Bestseller, a Barnes & Noble YA Pick of the Month, an Amazon Editor’s Pick, and a 2022 CRYSTAL KITE award winner from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. My books are available world-wide in ten countries and counting!

Although she comes from a long line of writers, Ginny’s first love has always been the theatre. She has a degree in theatre and has spent most of her career teaching acting and directing plays and musicals. Ginny currently lives in St. Cloud, Florida, with her college-age son and a wild goldendoodle named Magnolia. When she is not working in the theatre or writing, you’re likely to find her listening to true crime podcasts, taking pictures of alligators, eating tacos, traveling to spooky places, or hanging out at Walt Disney World.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It took a while to get started, but it’s been pretty smooth since my first book came out in 2021. I know, though, that there will be bumps ahead. Publishing is a rough business, and you have to be ready for whatever gets thrown at you.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I write mysteries and thrillers with a touch of magic or the paranormal. My books are very atmospheric and have lots of twists and turns. Although they are technically young adult books (aimed at late teen readers), I’d say that about half of my readers are actually adults. People who love my stories say it’s the lush settings that really set them apart from other mysteries.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I read as much as I can, in all kind of age categories and genres, but I particularly like reading thrillers and horror to see what my fellow authors are up to!
