Rising Stars: Meet Hanny Lerida-Fester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanny Lerida-Fester.

Hi Hanny, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was a baby, my parents took me on overseas adventures with them. I don’t quite remember all the trips we took, but I do remember visiting my grandparents in Peru at the age of three.

I’ve always considered myself very fortunate for getting the opportunity to travel at a very young age. While most kids my age were going to Disney, I traveled to London, Paris, Madrid, and so forth.

Kids my age couldn’t relate to my travel adventures, but traveling at such a young age helped me with classes such as Geography and History and also to appreciate different cultures.

Throughout the years, I kept traveling to different countries, collecting souvenirs and preserving memorabilia, such as boarding passes and train tickets, which I tucked away in a travel box.

Although I loved everything that dealt with travel, I did not want to work in the travel industry. However, after I moved away from my parents to go to UCF, I eventually worked in travel.

Working in the travel industry brought a lot of opportunities to me. Not only was I able to keep on traveling, but I was exposed to all things travel. Realizing that I had plenty to offer, I decided to start my travel blog.

At first, I thought it would be great to share all of the adventures I had been on, but as I kept discovering the world, I wanted to share more than just adventures; I wanted to share discounts, tips, and guides.

My travel blog back then had a different name. To many, I was known as the Travel Junkie or, as I had named my site, TravlJunkie.

This ended up changing to The Global Wanderess after I went to my first blogging conference, and from then on, I decided to make The Global Wanderess into more than just a hobby.

Before Covid, I was traveling to different countries, but in 2020, I started to focus more on Central Florida content.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the beginning, it was easy, but after I decided to change my blog from hobby to business, that’s when I had some significant challenges.

For starters, I had to rebrand, and this caused some issues along the way. Aside from that, the only other challenge has been finding a good balance between my blog, job, and everything in between.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Aside from my travel blog, I work remotely in Operations. I also have an online shop, freelance, and I am currently working on publishing a book.

I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished so far and how far I’ve come along since starting my travel blog. I think it’s the passion for travel and the determination that sets me apart from others.

What were you like growing up?
I used to be very outgoing as a toddler, but over the years, I started becoming more of an introvert. So now I’m an in-between, I’m not too much of an extrovert, but I’m also not too much of an introvert.

As for my interests, I think they are mostly the same. I used to love playing with my Easy-Bake Oven, and now as an adult, I love baking! The same goes for travel and photography.
