Today we’d like to introduce you to Harry Kleedorfer.
Hi Harry, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Freaks of HHN was founded in March 2018 from a passion and lifelong love of Halloween Horror Nights, Universal Orlando, and spooky attractions. We started with a Facebook page, and Instagram account dedicated to sharing haunt and Halloween-related material while creating a safe place for spooky fans to come together and discuss HHN all year long. Since our first horror-related meme, we have experienced massive growth – reaching across the United States and expanding into a YouTube channel, TikTok account, and regularly updated attraction blog. Through our varied social media channels and coverage methods, we are focused on building up year-round theme park happenings, Halloween-focused events, and locally-owned attractions.
The greatest amount of growth we’ve seen is on TikTok. At the beginning of the haunt season 2022, we posted a few videos from HHN’s opening weekend. Our audience blew up after going viral, with a video acquiring over 6 million views. We now have over 173,000 followers on TikTok. We have over 326,000 followers and subscribers when you combine our social channels. Today, Freaks of HHN is a multi-media organization offering written, video, and photographic coverage of worldwide theme parks, holiday events, local attractions, and artistic works. Something really important to me is community. I am very passionate about connecting and lifting both smaller outlets and larger companies. Because of this attitude, I’ve created a family-type atmosphere with everyone, from startup YouTube channels and podcasts to theme park leaders. We all bring something unique to the table, and there is room for all of us. So, don’t hesitate to DM Freaks of HHN!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building a social media-based business can be challenging while balancing other full-time endeavors and family life. Especially as Halloween season approaches and there are more spooky attractions to cover schedules and events can start to conflict. I’ve been fortunate to have a team of individuals willing to help me create the vital content that keeps our channel growing and shining a light on the artists and performers that make these events possible. When we first started Freaks of HHN, I lived in the St. Pete area. While I appreciate many things about the West Coast, managing a theme park-based page far away from Orlando took a lot of work. In 2021, we moved to Kissimmee, which has helped us manage our time and content creation considerably.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As I said before, we all bring something different to the table. What sets me apart from my other content creation colleagues is that I see events and attractions from a slightly different perspective. While other creators may be recording something happening on a central stage, I am often looking at the overlooked details and set pieces that make an event truly special. I pay attention, and because of this – Freaks of HHN creates unique content you won’t find at any other outlet. But while we are proud of the content we produce, we are also so thankful for our community and the trust we’ve built with our followers, subscribers, and readers. Whether people are looking to plan their vacation, learn about an event, or build their brand, they often come to us for advice. It’s an amazing feeling to be able to support so many Orlando locals, tourists, artists, and professionals from the same outlet.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
In closing, we are most thankful for our fans and friends who have become family over the years. For us, this is what it’s all about – the connections that we’ve made (both personal and professional) have truly enriched our lives. People may think we’re crazy for our love of Halloween Horror Nights. What they need to understand is it’s more than just an event. It’s a place filled with sights, sounds, smells, and nightmarish experiences, where friends come together and become family from all over the world. To us, it is more than just an event; it’s an escape from everything – even if it’s only for a few months a year. We are all just a bunch of Freaks!
