Hiral Rana

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into the world of beauty began with henna—something I was drawn to from a very young age. I was always fascinated by the elegance and cultural richness that henna brings, and I was lucky to learn the art from my cousin, who was a professional henna artist herself. Over time, what started as a hobby slowly turned into a true passion.

However, like many, I initially took a more traditional path in life. I pursued a career in pharmacy and worked in the healthcare field for several years. But life had different plans for me. After facing a major health challenge—my cancer diagnosis—I went through a deep phase of reflection. That journey made me re-evaluate what truly lights up my soul. That’s when I reconnected with my creative side and decided to take a leap of faith into the beauty industry.

I started working with another henna artist professionally, learning the nuances of the business and client experience. Eventually, I launched my own brand, now known as Empress Ink Studio, where I offer bridal and guest henna, makeup, and draping services. My goal has always been to enhance natural beauty while honoring tradition—whether it’s through a modern bridal makeup look or a timeless mehndi design.

I furthered my skills through hands-on training and certifications in makeup artistry, allowing me to expand my services. I love making my clients feel confident, beautiful, and empowered, especially on their most special days. Today, I serve clients across Florida and beyond, particularly within the South Asian and American communities.

Every stroke of henna and every brush of makeup carries a part of my story—one of resilience, creativity, and passion. This career has not only allowed me to express my artistry but also to deeply connect with people and be a part of their joyful milestones.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Before entering the beauty industry, I was working in the pharmaceutical field as a QA/QC technician. I had a stable job and thought I was on a secure career path. But life had different plans for me.

Six months after giving birth, while still navigating postpartum, I received a life-altering diagnosis—I had cancer. That moment changed everything. I had to leave my job immediately, and suddenly, I was faced with not just the emotional and physical toll of illness, but also overwhelming mental stress and financial instability.

Fighting cancer while caring for a newborn and adjusting to a completely new reality was the biggest challenge I’ve ever faced. It was a time of deep uncertainty, but it also became a turning point. I began to reflect on what truly brings me joy and purpose—and that’s when I returned to my passion for beauty and creativity.

Starting from scratch in a new industry was intimidating. I had to learn, build my brand, and gain clients—all while healing and holding my family together. But every challenge I faced shaped me into the artist and businesswoman I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As an artist and creative, I specialize in bridal henna, makeup, and draping services under my brand Empress Ink Studio. I work with South Asian and multicultural brides across Orlando and beyond, helping them look and feel their most confident and beautiful on their big day.

What sets my work apart is the way I blend tradition with a modern touch—whether it’s designing intricate henna patterns that carry symbolic meaning or creating makeup looks that enhance natural features while honoring cultural aesthetics. I take time to understand each client’s unique story, preferences, and personality, which allows me to offer a highly customized experience.

I’m most proud of how far I’ve come—from being in a completely different profession to building a career based on passion, creativity, and resilience. Every booking is a celebration, not just for the client, but for me as well—a reminder of the strength it took to start over and build something from the heart.

Clients often tell me that what they appreciate most is my calming presence, attention to detail, and ability to make them feel truly seen. For me, it’s not just about the services—it’s about creating lasting memories and empowering women to feel radiant inside and out.

What’s next?
Looking ahead, I’m excited to expand Empress Ink Studio into more than just a service-based business—I envision it becoming a learning hub and community for aspiring artists. One of my biggest goals is to launch my own Henna and Makeup Academy where I can teach others the very skills and secrets that have helped me build my business from the ground up.

This academy won’t just focus on techniques; I want to share the business side too—how to build client trust, create a brand, manage bookings, and grow on social media. I want to help others, especially women, turn their passion into purpose, just like I did.

In the long run, I see myself mentoring students from all walks of life and creating a platform that uplifts talent, empowers creativity, and preserves the beauty of traditional art with a modern touch. This vision is deeply personal to me, and I’m looking forward to watching it unfold.
