Rising Stars: Meet Jacob Glassmeyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Glassmeyer.

Hi Jacob, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After serving in the United States Army, I came back home beginning various jobs and college, during that time I was diagnosed and battled cancer twice. After all of my chemotherapy, I was completely deconditioned, fought emotional eating, and became obese. Knew I had to do something to change my mindset and that would then change everything else around me.

I began a journey into fitness and that journey led me to become a personal trainer and to be a professor at the professional golfer’s career college where I had the opportunity to teach and work with individuals from throughout the world. With an outlook on life after defeating cancer, I knew I could beat anything else in my pathway. I moved to Florida from Tennessee and for 14 years I was at a local facility as a personal trainer, sports specific coach, martial arts instructor, etc. and felt that I had the ability to create within myself a business that I can take as far as the world will let me.

During that time Taichi came into my life and from there so many opportunities opened up more than all the other jobs that I have had combined. During the pandemic, I became a virtual instructor reaching multiple countries and states. Today I offer Glassmeyer Health and wellness multiple services to help bring people into creating the one life, one body, and make the most of both mentalities.

I have set my sights on bigger goals to collaborate with and be a part of more events in the year 2022 and that is happening even as this is written.

Being a veteran, martial artist, and cancer survivor has changed my outlook and improved my overall quality of life in my mental, emotional, and physical energy.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My struggles along the way were at 25 being diagnosed with testicular cancer and within three months after the surgery and cancer came back from there, I had to go through multiple bouts of chemotherapy spending a week at a time lying in a hospital bed. During that time my grandmother passed away, one of my dogs was poisoned, and the woman I was engaged to left me but I persevered through it all.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am most well known as YourTaiChiGuy. I specialize in tai chi and she’s gone to qigong. The ancient disciplines of qigong and taichi have more life applications than other group fitness experiences and create a center of calmness you can acquire anytime. I am most proud of teaching these ancient disciplines to my veteran family. Saul who is 97 from WW II and Gabriel who is 88 was in the Korean War are just a couple of the veterans that benefit from my teaching. Setting me apart from the others is I am also a NASM certified personal trainer, 3rd-degree blackbelt in Taekwondo, US Army Veteran, cancer survivor and lastly, I’ve been known to sing a song as a closer to finish our sessions of taichi and qigong. I use to be a singagram artist as Elvis Presley.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy are those individuals experiencing Taichi for the first time and leave class telling me they feel like they are floating, more relaxed than they’ve been in their entire life, and that they feel so much better. What makes me happy my wife Yvonne for her support, trust, and love of the business we do together.

What makes me happy is seeing individuals for the first time after two years and a half from the pandemic coming back to seeing me and hoping it was me that was going to be there Taichi and teacher again.

Why? All of these that I have written let me know that I am living my mission statement of One life, one body, make the most of both.
