Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Stasko.
Hi Jenna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was a struggling waitress for years, always unsure of my career choice. I entertained the idea of college for many years and just only completed a little. I have always been very artsy & independent but also lost. Looking for something to call my own, I decided to pick up a trade. After taking a microblading course, I quickly upgraded to machine work. I fell in love with Ombré brows and began my journey into the brow world. This was the kickstart to “Elegant Brows LLC.” My first workspace was a small room inside a hair salon, and the following year – a bigger space, but still next to the sounds of hair dryers, lol, After being asked to start teaching by many of my clients. Other random people are reaching out through social media.
I decided that this was the direction I wanted to go. While still in a small room, I was teaching 2 students at a time but quickly realized my space was too small. & I wanted to walk into a space I could call my own. In my third year, I stumbled Across an amazing location three doors down from my original rental space. This didn’t seem like a Coincidence at all. Within 30 days, I was moved in. Elegant Brows was a storefront DBA The Brow Room. It was decorated with my personal touch and is a place to train & leave working space for other artists and services. It has been an intense jump from a 10by10 room to a 1,800 sq ft within a few short years, but it has taught me a lot about running a business and how to help others grow and find a comfy place to kickstart their brow portfolio. Training has become the highlight of this entire process for me.
This is where my true passion lies. & my favorite aspect is that the students have a place to call home after becoming licensed and certified. Always thankful for each client and support and especially for trusting me to tattoo their beautiful faces, as this has allowed me to push further into the industry. Not only growing as an artist but as a trainer and shop owner. The Brow Room now houses artists that not only do Ombre brows but lip blushing, & lash extensions, along with temporary services such as lash lifts/tinting and other brow services like waxing, lamination & tinting as well. I plan to add body tattoos if the right person comes along looking for a new place to plant their roots for a while. Overall, this experience of entering Entrepreneurship has been a rollercoaster ride, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I hope to continue this adventure for many years to come. 🖤🤘🏼
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have many ups and downs. When I first opened, I realized the course I took for microblading was not the service I wanted to be doing after only a few months. I taught myself the machine and ran with it, falling in love with ombré brows. Shortly after opening, COVID Shut ever going down for about 2 months & then I found out I was pregnant. I was taking time off once again the same year to have my baby. & opening a brick mortar will always be a challenge, along with a 30-day timeline & then finding artists who want to commit to a booth rent is always fun! Lol, it hasn’t been easy, but I feel like it could have been worse, for which I am thankful.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I specialize in ombré brow tattoos. It is a semi-permanent service done with a tattoo machine. This customizable service can give a more symmetrical shape to anyone’s eyebrows and leave them with a soft, filled-in look. Being nearly undetectable as a “tattoo,” this can be natural, medium, or a makeup look but any of which look soft and subtle. Eliminated most clients’ need to fill in their brows daily. There is an initial session & then a small follow-up if needed. And maintenance is once every 1-5-2.5 years. I am most proud of my studio. I have created this place with a unique decor and vibe that is welcoming and warm. A fun Esthetic that appeals to most & gives a chill feeling when some are nervous for their first appointment. What sets me apart from others is my training classes. & the continued support that is offered after class and certification. After completing the first hands-on session on a live model, students can rent the “student station” for a low daily rate to help build clientele before committing to monthly booth rent.
Do you have any advice for those just starting?
I wish I had known when first starting to take an ombré brow course, not a microblading course. These are two entirely different services, and I believe ombré is more customizable, Safe for all skin types & ages, And yields a better result over time. Also, it is essential when choosing a trainer that you could tattoo with them and have continued support after class. I crash courses in most classes or two days, so continued support after class is vital. Some questions don’t arise until the situation comes up.
