Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Cervi
Hi Jess, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started in the beauty industry 21 years ago. I was about to go to UCF for Journalism, but decided cosmetology school sounded better. I always enjoyed getting my own hair done & how incredible I felt at the end of my appointments, so I wanted to give that same feeling to others.
It wasn’t an easy journey. One year into being licensed, I needed a total hip replacement, and I was concerned I’d have to change careers, but I made it through the surgery. It gave me a new outlook on life and started me on a life-long fitness journey that I’m still on today.
I regularly attend continuing education classes that help me stay on trend, and able to attract new clients to my studio, and enjoy learning new techniques.
I’m grateful I chose this career, as I’ve been able to have a flexible schedule, that allows me to travel frequently. I’m currently at 27 countries and counting. I love sharing my travel stories with my guests.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Along with the hip replacement, a few years ago I started to struggle with chemical smells. I was working in large salons and unable to control my environment, so four years ago I moved into a private salon suite. I made a lot of changes in my professional and personal life, removing as many toxins as possible. I wanted to make sure I was creating a healthier space for myself and my guests.
For many years, I was pretty good at a lot of services, but I was burnt out. I decided to change my business model within the past five years, focusing on cleaner products and specializing in low maintenance color services, which I truly enjoy.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love being a low maintenance color specialist. I help women transition into embracing their grey hair by blending it, instead of fully covering it, if they prefer. This creates a longer time between appointments, and helps to soften their grow out. I want my guests to enjoy their hair, and not feel like they’re tied down to being in the salon every 4-6 weeks.
I’ve created a calming space with plants, essential oils, hot towels, and clean products. I love talking to my clients, but I also offer quiet appointments, so they can work or relax, without feeling like they have to talk to me.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I’d have to say consistency. I really try to stay consistent with the service I offer.
