Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Wiley.
Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Daydream Rabbit had started out with lapel pins. A friend of mine showed me her collection of lapel pins made by the Small Business K-Pop community on Instagram. I was very intrigued and in awe by these artists that made stunning pins. They took their art style and formed it into a pin and every single one was uniquely different. I was really inspired by them and started researching to learn more about this process.
After over a month of learning and research, I finally decided to try my own hand at lapel pins with my own small business. It was a work in progress and there was still so much to learn but I opened my first round of pre-orders for my very first pin. I kept on going and growing from there. I really wanted to do a product that was unique and reflected my own style. I love hats personally and bucket hats were, and still, very popular in the K-Pop community. I branched out from lapel pins into bucket hats and it was a lot of fun. From there, I knew I wanted to keep branching out into different products., clothing especially. I decided to try my hand at shirts and it has been a great journey to where I am today. I think clothing, in my case shirts, are a great way to represent our favorite groups/bands from K-Pop and even better when they are comfy. I love doing this and am incredibly grateful to the customers that have supported me all this way.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely is not easy. Running a small business on your own is a challenge. There are times when sales are low, your designs are not getting as much engagement on the social media platforms, pre-orders for items are delayed unexpectedly.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I design and create clothing, mostly shirts, and hoodies for K-Pop groups. I make them myself by hand. I think my hoodies are what I am most known for right now, they have gained a lot of traction and popularity. I think I am most proud of my Dwaekki Sweatshirt. It was my first time trying a new medium for creating shirts, I took on screenprinting and it was a big learning curve for myself but that sweatshirt came out really great and cute.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love collaborating with others! Anyone can message me, email me and I am always open to trying something new or working with others! Supporting me can be a simple share of one of my Instagram posts! That can be a big thing for a small business like myself even if it seems insignificant.
