Rising Stars: Meet Joslyn Massey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joslyn Massey.

Hi Joslyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It all started over twenty years ago, just a young girl and a basketball. That basketball changed my entire life. It took me around the US through my middle school and high school years. Led me to over 50 scholarship offers, gave me the opportunity to play D1 basketball, and a free collegiate education.

Now I run a basketball training facility in Winter Garden, Florida (Hoop Dreams Elite). We train all ages, five through professional athletes. The main goal is to help each individual get to the highest level possible and help them reach their goals.

I also have a mentoring program for kids, mentoring program for adults starting new businesses, three online stores, a car rental agency, and am partnered with a roofing company.

Along with this, my business partner and I also have a nonprofit organization (HDE Family) that we use to give back to those in need. Three main focuses are kids with disabilities, underprivileged kids, and the homeless.

I work hard in order to live freely and be able to serve those in need as much as possible. I’m always looking for other business opportunities/partnerships and those willing to serve the community.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge for me was loosing my father at the age 20. He was my best friend and my biggest supporter. When I lost him, I lost myself. It took over a year to get back on track but my road had changed. I reevaluated my entire game plan. Instead of using my engineering degree and going to work for a major company, I decided to create my own business and work on other things I am passionate about. It was tough but I was dedicated and made it work.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

I am most proud of the kids we train. There are so many kids that come in and can barely dribble the ball but months later, they can do everything. Their hard work and dedication is truly amazing. I love watching them grow!

What sets me apart from others is that I love what I do and am completely invested in watching my kids and mentees get better. No matter what I am doing, I give it my all. All my time, energy, and love.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something people normally do not know is that I am always serving the community. I do community service at least once a week. It is something that I am passionate about.
