Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylee Church.
Kaylee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
None of my schooling or life experiences ever really brought me around plants nor did I even know much about them, but during COVID lockdown I purchased my first two plant babies- a tomato and a pepper plant. About a week or two later I was gifted a little greenhouse and that is when I first truly started discovering my love for plants and the happiness it brings me. Initially, when I started creating macramé it was for my personal use only, never to sell but I also realized what an amazing accessory to the plants they are so adding macramé and hand-poured planters to my business dream was an easy decision to make. My business name was always going to include “Bella”, and everyone assumes that’s me- which is a fair assumption, but my business name is inspired by my beautiful German Shepherd who has been my right hand for 13 years and my forever gardening buddy- Bella. She LOVES a breezy day laying near me while I take care of all the plants, she’s truly my inspiration. Fast forward six months into my small business journey and I think things are going great for Bella’s Blooms! I can see my small business growing and the amount of joy and happiness I am able to bring to people through plants is truly an amazing feeling.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think I have experienced normal small business obstacles, nothing outrageous. Since I mainly run my business at pop-up markets and events, I would say the one of the big struggles is figuring out absolutely everything you need to be prepared at a market, trying to fit your entire small business and products in your car can be a bit of a challenge.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create macramé plant hangers, wall hangings, hand-poured planters, and succulent arrangements and I sell a variety of plants too (house plants, succulents, cacti, air plants, etc.). I would say I am known for my macramé plant hangers and plants (people love the plants). What I believe sets me an apart from others is the creative flare I bring to some of my macramé pieces as well as my hand-poured cement planters- I have recently added a new one people seem to be loving! I have also recently started thrifting and upcycling certain things into planters, which has been very fun! I am definitely most proud of my macramé work and how far I have come as a macramé maker and it makes me even more proud of myself that this is a creative outlet for me that is 100% self-taught.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
The number one app any small business can have is Canva. Having an online presence is SO important, especially when you are a small business and this app allows me to create pretty much anything you could need as far as graphics and content to make sure my social media looks as good as possible. Not to mention this is one of the easiest apps to use, it’s for every skill level!
