Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin And Kimmi Jones.
Hi Kristin and Kimmi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My sister Kimmi and I opened up our salon (Kin Salon) five years ago in July of 2020. We both worked at a very large and busy salon for 12-15 years prior to that. We felt like it was finally time to do our own thing. We now operate a small studio salon in College Park, specializing in color, curly hair techniques and basically teaching our clients how to work with their natural textures as best they can. We don’t really love anything high maintenance for our clients. We love educating them on what products to use and how to minimally style their own hair.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Well like I said we opened in 2020, so not so smooth at the beginning because of the pandemic. All of our clients followed us over but they were not used to us seeing one person at a time. Kimmi and I worked with assistants before and we would sometimes have 2 or even 3 people there at once. Once we moved we worked one on one, this forced way of working during 2020 was so much better for us. We can really take our time with each individual client we see. In the end it works much better now.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We love working together, we hangout all the time outside of work. We do a lot of color, corrective color and natural lived in color. Kimmi and I have traveled so many places in our 17 and 22 year careers. We have trained in England, Europe, NYC, California and even New Orleans. We have also taught classes locally and in New York. I worked as a stylist in Brooklyn for 5 years prior to moving back here and opening up Kin with my sister. Most of our classes have been on color, razor cutting and curly hair. We love what we do so much and it’s even more special because we do it together. When you walk into see us we love for you to feel listened too, we also love to make suggestions if you don’t know what you want to do. We can chat during your appointment or you can work on your laptop. We don’t care either way.
